I've heard SOAS is really good, for comparative/international programs, but I know nothing about Westminster.

You might as well forget LL.M then even consider a University like Westminster. It's a 'z' tier University and doing LL.M from Westminster should be an absolute 'no', 'no'. Mon Jan 28, 2008 06:53 PM The other University in London you shouldn't even touch with a barge pole is City University (for LL.M). In fact, the most horror stories I have heard on this forum(from City University's ex-students) and outside this forum is reserved for City University. Despite all the spin given by City Univ's professor(s) who contribute regularly to this forum etc, City University LL.M has the most negative image amongst prospective students, from all over the world, wanting to do a LL.M in UK. Doing LL.M at Westminster or City Univ., forget very low on your list, in fact, shouldn't be on your list at all.... All you have to do is check some old posts on this forum for more details. Craig,Mon Jan 28, 2008 08:04 PM I totally disagree with you. I don't know about City University but I am sure your approach to people who have taken the LL.M at Westminster is rather limited. The university has a very competitive Finance and Dispute Resolution LL.Ms, aimed almost exclusively to foreign students, with a lot of practical work. If you care to check, you will realize that Westminster LLM's (at least the ones I mentioned) have a very complete programme. Additionally, it is very conveniently located in Central London (Oxford Street) and its facilities are amazing. Your post sounds aggressive and your views are usupported. You don't seem to have understood the objective of this forum and I wonder what your real interests are. Jeremy |

So just wondering about whose 'interests' are really suspect here. I been on this forum long enough to know what I am talkin about so maybe some 'newbie' on this forum needs to learn about the objectives of this forum first.... I thank you all for your insights...Tue Jan 29, 2008 06:23 AM I agree that Westminster is not highly ranked...even badly ranked but from what I’ve heard the corporate finance LLM is supposed to be good! What do you think? And does the English law firms dissociate between the university and a particular LLM program? I have also the same question about SOAS? I mean the entry requirements? What is more important grades or CV? |

I work for a Magic Circle firm and have seen a lot of useless people coming from Oxford and Cambirdge, and many hard-working individuals who come from smaller universities. Ultimately, it is for each individual to make the most out of its LLM. BTW (by the way) I also loved, "I have been on this forum long enough to know what I am talkin about" - Do you put this sort of achievements on your CV? Maybe that explains why you should consider shutting up for a while. Jeremy |

You are right,Wed Feb 06, 2008 05:56 AM but if you do not have the grades for it... i mean between the mentioned universities... which ones are relatively easy to go into...with regular grades but good work experience,,,i know that LSE, UCL and Kings are the hardest.. what do you think? |

I'm totally agree with CR. LSE, UCL, Soas and Kings are among the best and everyone know their reputation, but I really want to know about in Westminster since itsting programmes seems quite interesting.

I know that there are some courses at SOAS which are jointly taught with UCL professors. So, SOAS must be alright or UCL would not be involved, now that the London LLM is defunct.Wed Feb 06, 2008 07:33 PM As for Westminster, I do not know much about it, but it is not in the same league as SOAS. As for City, I know that the commercial LLM there has taken a beating from comments on this site, but I have spoken to a friend who did the international law LLM and he said that the international LLM was really, really good. That doesn't really help though, because overall SOAS (one of your choices) is better. hope this helps |

Another thing ...what are the entrance criteria at SOAS? If we do not fulfil the grades requirements, can we make it up with a good CV? I guess what I wanted to ask is: if we do not have good grades but good work experience ...where do we apply? |

CR, yes, there is a chance to make up for not quite making the grade. I know that UCL will consider work experience, if it is impressive and usually substantial, and if the original grades were not too far off the mark.
