Admission to sweden-lund.
G'day JeffSat May 03, 2008 11:47 AM I finished my degree last year at La Trobe Uni in Victoria (Law/International Relations). I know how well kept that secret is - I did 2 exchanges to Sweden as an undergraduate - but to be honest it only clicked that study was free when I was thinking about what to do after graduating. I must say I am pissed off I had to pay HECS back here whilst I was on exchange ! Ahh well I guess I chose Lund because it had the best reputation for a Masters in Law in Sweden, and similarly in Europe (Uppsala, Stockholm and Goteborg being up there as well). I am not too sure about the Stockholm EU course, but I remember when I looked into it earlier that it seemed that the Lund version offered a greater chance to specialise in a particular area - mostly because of the longer duration. I hope everyone here is right about this 999 thing, if so ill probably see you there if the Ambassador holds another shindig for us poor aussies (the last one was great, they even had VB, not sure about XXXX though...) ari |

You are right on that Seltue12!Sat May 03, 2008 03:11 PM And MR 1 equals a rejection. What about MR 997 like mine? A close rejection/admission?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Thanks again Seltue 12! I guess I just have to wait for 3 more days.Mon May 05, 2008 02:51 AM As for Roselina, there is no doubt you have been accepted. It is clear from the uni website that your MR equals acceptance without any qualification. Congrats! You should visit the uni online though and commence pre registration and arrangements for your accomodation. All the best to everyone! |

Each uni has different SG and MR rules.Mon May 05, 2008 03:44 AM KTH has 52 highest MR; Halmstd has 1300 highest MR;KI has 15 highest MR;Lund has 999 highest MR;Orebro has 999 highest MR and so on. SG is also useful to predict something about your MR. MR=999 with SG=DA means you have been accepted without any doubt. MR=999 with SG=OS/PG etc means you have been considered as eligible candidate but decision has to be taken. For example You applied to programme XYZ which has 10 places. Admission commitee found 15 candidates as eligible and assign them MR=999. Here the final decision will be based on gender (some uni prefer female) and your previous academic background. If you have excellent academic record then other candidates, you will receive admission letter but in case you don’t have a good academics then you will be asked to wait for 2nd round of admission and if any place is not accepted by admitted candidate then you will be offered that vacant seat. Many people who got MR=999 but SG=DA have received admission letters from universities( allthough officially admissions will be announced on 8th) but SG=DA is a something very special case and DA stand for Direct Admission. If you got OS at Uppsala then you will have to wait till 8th as I can’t say anything about this selection groups just I can translate OS as “Eligible without merit based evaluation” You should conclude from above facts about your selection group. |

Thanks a lot Dr. Ahmed!Mon May 05, 2008 04:05 AM Your explanation on SG and MR is clear and to the point on the subject and am sure that many of the subscribers here will find it most useful. I have personally found it very useful. It has removed all doubts that I had. May 8th it must be then! |

Is anyone else attempting to log onto their studera account, but keep getting "preparation for selection/selection running"...I was wondering if anyone else gets this once they log onto their account. I wonder if this means they will start posting notification of acceptance sooner than later.

Many of us have misinterpreted LUMAS 999. It doesn't mean that you are admitted it means you have been highly ranked and selection will take place among highly ranked candidates based on available place.Tue May 06, 2008 12:00 AM I had had chit chat with one official from Lund on behalf of this community and insisted her to give some clue about 999 MR. She told me that there are 110 highlt ranked people with 999 MR and available seats are 75. So they have to decide whom they will send admission letters and whom they will place on waiting list for 2nd round. Same is for all other universities but there are some exceptional cases who have been admitted 100% & have received SG=DA with 999 MR. It should be cleared now. I have received MR 999 at Lund/Uppsala & Orebro as well. |

Hi Kamran-I don't think that this is applicable to all the programs at Lund Uni. The masters of law program through the faculty of law have a clear post about acceptance and non-acceptance based on the early admission results (999 and 1). Each program and university differs, particularly Lund which has many separate faculties. Moreover, the program administrator has told me that those accepted (999) into a masters of law program at the faculty will be receiving formal notice later this week and to contact the embassy about securing a visa. You also said something about 75 available seats, which I know is incorrect about the LL.M. in international human rights law. Perhaps you have applied for a different program at Lund not through the faculty of law and this is true for your program only.

All these statistics I gathered from different forums/blogs/groups/vhs.se website and university officials.Tue May 06, 2008 06:00 AM The facts i posted are more specific to my programme at LUND which is Publis Health and others may get some clue about their programmes. What i said in previous post doesn't mean tht i applies to all programmes. These facts varies with programmes,no: of eligible (highly ranked) applicants and available places. For example you applied to programme XYZ and it has 10 places. Only 7 people get MR 999 then there will be 3 vacant seats which will be offered to MR 998. Now suppose 3 applicants don't want to join XYZ programmes and do not accept then in second round these places will be offered to applicants even with lower MR 997. (Keep in mind that selection groups are also very important and I couldn't get much facts about SGs) This means it totally depends upon competition in your programme. If seats are limited and people with MR999 are more then available seats then you can justify yourself what could happened. These are just speculations which I am posting for those people who are still searching for their answers regarding MRs. Anyway day after tommorow you will find the exact meanings of all these weird SG/MRs. |

@Saltue;Tue May 06, 2008 06:10 AM All I knw about your selection group SG=AU is that this is very good selection group and stands after DA which is the best. People with DA have >95% chances of being admitted. People with AU have >75% chances of being admitted. For others you should refer yourself to my previous post their I have explained each and every thing. |

All the best guys.Wed May 07, 2008 05:22 AM As for me I cannot be too sure anymore. The SG/MR thing is too confusing and there appears to be more than one admission round. The next admission notifications will be made on 29th May, 2008! |

Tell me about it. It is really confusing. According to Studera.nu Notification of Admission will be published here at studera.nu in Your pages on May 8. Carefully read it through. Since the notification is accessible online as a printable PDF-file, no hard copy will be sent to you by postal services. You can be admitted to one study programme only. If a programme is marked "Deleted" in your notification, this either indicates that you have been admitted to a programme with higher priority or that you did not meet the entrance requirements (missing documents, verification impossible or insufficient proficiency in English could be the reason for rejection). Wed May 07, 2008 05:39 AM The results from the second selection round will be published May 29. If your application package arrived after February 15, we will not process any appeal from you. If May 29 is the next selection round most of us int'l student that need resident permit won't be able to get one if we are in the second selection. I hope I get in the first selection. All the best guys. |

Very true pal!Wed May 07, 2008 05:44 AM It will be very had to get resident permits in time for the beginning of the semester if we get admitted in the second round. I really hope that we do get the admissions though. There is a lot to say in favour of broad based admissions to higher education in terms of quality of discussions and exchange of experiences. I am sure that studera nu is aware of this |

Thanks Genep :)Wed May 07, 2008 10:57 AM After reading Dr's post, I feel kind of scared of the rejection by the programme because what if the number of applicants getting a 999 excede the number of seats available. That would be a major let down. But its too soon to tell. Anyways all the best to everyone applying to swedish universities :) Cheers |
