m.dymas: Admission to sweden-lund.

Guys, need your help around here...

I submitted a complete printed documents to VHS (Swedish national admission office) a week ago, the mailing service has informed me that all documents has been accepted by VHS 3 days ago.

Today I received an email from VHS saying that my application has not been registered yet, does anybody know what this means? Does it mean that they have accepted my application, but haven't done anything about it? Usually how long does it takes for VHS to send in all documents to the university?

I started to freak out, when i receive the email from VHS, wondering they have received my email or not?

Yes i did...

I sent out a complete printed document together with the printed cover as well.
I wanted to contact the VHS once more, asking what does it mean that my document was not registered yet, but i guess they must be so busy so i dont want to disturb their work at all.

Does anyone has any experience dealing with the admission process for studying in sweden?

Hello Everyone!

What mailing service did you use to send your documents to the VHS? I'm just getting nervous. I was checking the document travel time online, and neither UPS nor FedEx's websites could quote a time range for sending documents to the VHS. (My universities are sending transcripts via FedEx - no word yet on whether they have been received!)

I use EMS (Express mailing service) it took only 3 days to send documents from Indonesia to Sweden and Netherlands.

asking about the results of the admission process, the swedish degree system and about the scholarship.

Seems we need to be really patience about the whole process, up to 17th of april, there will be no information on the admission results.
But he said, all documents has been scanned by the VHS and it is still being reviewed by the university. There will be approximately 50 students accepted to each program.

for me it got application for admission number and then follow by status. Under status it have follow application and view and edit application. When I click to follow application it read under assessment and MR = Merit rating in the selection group (only shown if all entrance requirements are met). Under MR it read application in process.
Also Should an application alternative be marked "Not processed" or "Under assessment" this indicates that the course or programme has not been fully processed yet.

DId you read this?:

1.If You Have Applied Between December 2007 and February 2008

Due to the large number of applications, the scanning process (of documents) has been delayed. It is scheduled to finish during the first week of March.

The first step of the admission process (validation, eligibility, authenticity) is a very long process and it is not yet finished.

We have no way of providing applicants with status reports at this point. We kindly ask you to be patient and wait for the entire process to finish. The admission result will be posted by Mid-April.

http://www.lu.se/o.o.i.s/10900

2. If You Are From Outside of the EU/EEA
This application period does not give enough time to process your residence permit application before studies begin in the Autumn. Students from within the EU/EEA will not have this problem

If You Are a Non EU Student - Important Residence Permit Information:
Non EU students require a residence permit to study in Sweden. You can only get a residence permit when you have been officially accepted to a masters programme. This means that if you make an application in March 2008 you may miss the start of your studies in Autumn 2008; this is because the residence permit application process can take time.

This application period does not give enough time to process your residence permit application before studies begin in the Autumn.

I think this means some of Master Programmes, which Application deadline is April 15th 2008. It does not means to the programmes, which closes February 2009.

Hi Guys:
I just wanted to let you know that both VHS and Lund have confirmed that notification of admission has been delayed. I received an email from both, indicating that the tentative date for admissions notification is 29 April. If anyone had emailed the university prior to the first week of April and inquired about the date of notification, that information is no longer relevant as it has changed. Furthermore, both websites have also been updated to reflect this change. (So there are no more inconsistencies). We have no choice but to wait!

The waiting is the most difficult part. But on the bright side, there is no more vague "mid-April' date...instead we have a certain date of notification on April 29. Try to relax until then and don't let anxiety get in the way of your day to day commitments. Remember, our level of anxiety will not effect the outcome! You have to respect the process-Lund is dealing with hundreds of international applications and they have to certify their authenticity, and moreover, compare records, transcripts, and documents that are dissimilar (can you imagine looking at grades from different jurisdictions, how would you start to compare?). At the end of the process, if you earn a spot in the program, you can be certain that you truly deserve it. And you can be certain that your classmates will offer you even more opportunities for growth because they will be qualified as well. One of the reasons I selected Lund was that it offers a competitive edge in the field of human rights and that edge would be ruined if they accepted everyone that applied. I think the majority of us in this thread are attorneys so let's try to be rational! And I learned a long time ago when I decided to commit myself to human rights law that I would have to reconcile my differences with bureaucracy and learn to co-exist with the system!

I got a slight slight change on my studera today - they added a 'selection group' box (its empty in the Swedish one, but it says something in the Swedish version).

To get to the Swedish your pages: log in in English, then click on 'Swedish', then click on left hand menu "Dina Sidor" - then its pretty much mirrored with the English.

Hope you're all having fun in your corners of the world. Are any of you signing the petition from Andrie Neclau about studera?

Good for you. I have been thinking about the 'Merit Rating' issue and wish to speculate as follows: The 'SG' employs the numbers 0-9 for each selection category beginning with academic qualifications. A course that considers only 3 heads of qualifications will therefore bear the MR 000 for the lowest and 999 for the highest merit rating. The first zero meaning no academic qualification and the other two representing other criteria such as work experience, proof of previous academic curiosity and so on and so forth. A course that considers more could bear the MR 0 000 for the lowest and 9 999 for the highest.

Since according to Studera.nu the MR will only be displaced for applicants who have met the basic admission qualification to the courses however, i.e. academic, there would no result in MR that begins with a zero.

I would therefore speculate that an applicant for say the International Commercial Arbitration master course in the University of Stockholm with the MR 999 stands a good chance of admission subject only to class capacity.

This could mean that should there be more candidates with the highest MR qualifications than the class can take the SG could resort to random drawing methods such as the use of computer sorting and those who get selected in those circumstances could be considered to be the 'lucky' ones.

Personally, I have now given the page a break. May 9 appears so far so I will concentrate on reading people's views here and going about my life as a distraction.

Not yet. I personally doubt that anyone will receive a notification of admission before the conclusion of the process otherwise it would not make sense to assess the applications in terms of merit rating.

If that were to be the case what would they do in the event that the remaining applicants turn out to be of extremely high MRs? It would mean they might contemplate 'recalling' some of the 'notifications of admissions'!

Looks like we just have to wait and be happy to receive MR whenever it pops up because at least that means that the applicant is fully qualified for the course subject to space and competition from other equally or more qualified candidates.

I am turning to milk. It is good for the stomach: -)

All the best to you!

My MR is 1.

Hopefully, for both of us, they are just place holders. No idea what it means - maybe they are just rankings for how the student ranked their programs (Lund is the only program I applied for - and perhaps you applied for other programs that still haven't come back with their results yet?)

Whatever it is, I hope its not bad for either of us!

Napolibo, I've applied to the HR Programme (only the HR concentration) so maybe our MR numbers have absolutely nothing in common! like I said, I'm not going to speculate about it. besides, this coordinated system with VHS is so new that I don't think that anyone, except for the national admissions office, can shed accurate light on it. I have a Swedish friend who told me that Swedes, as a culture, are very honest, but they are reserved, so if you want to know something, you've got to ask straight up! haha-I kinda like that...

Guys you all appear to have progressed so well here in my absence! I wish to congratulate all of you who appear to have received the MR qualifications that could guarantee admission. It appears that my theory/speculation was right if what you guys are saying about MR 999 is correct.

It may still mean however that those who have so qualified will now have to be admitted based on the total number of equally qualified candidates and the available spaces in the respective colleges. All the very best to all of you and congratulations in advance!

I have a bear MR 997 for the European Business Law course and using the information I have read here it means that I have failed! How sad for me but I will soldier on.

I have seen that I have a couple of 999s for the other courses so if I do get notification I will reluctantly accept my second or third choice and kiss Lund goodbye though I would have loved to be there and take the course.

Cheers guys.

Good luck

Hello, Folks!

My name is Alessandra and I have great news for the ones who have 999 at their MR:

http://qp.jur.lu.se/QuickPlace/mp/PageLibraryC125722600657D01.nsf/h_Toc/04ee2ab86e1c4d14c1257236003a18ce/?OpenDocument
CONGRATULATIONS! You have been accepted!
I am also a candidate, it is the second time I am applying for Lund... But my MR status is still showing under assessment!
My first option is Human Rights Law (general) and I still donīt have any reply. Is there anyone on the same stituation? Because... I have the repplies for the other Human Rights Program (Intectual Property and Labour Rights) - wich is 1. Maybe the general human rights results are taking longer to be processed. What do you think?

Hey guys congrats once again!

I really wanted to attend the European Business Law programme at Lund but my MR is only 997. Does this mean that I have been rejected?

My second choice was Uppsala's International Comparative Law programme in which I got an MR 999.

If an MR of 1 means rejected and 999 means accepted, what does MR 997 mean guys? Heeeelllllllllllllppppppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey good for you!

It is sad that we will not get to see each other in Lund as it appears that with my MR 997 I am not good enough for the course.

Still I think I will take up the Uppsala one if it comes my way.

Hi Ariel

Congrats on your (probable) admission to Lund. I think your the first fellow Australian I've seen posting here. I didn't actually apply to Lund, basically because I couldn't afford to spend 2 years in Sweden. I'm waiting to hear about admission to Uppsala (Int. and Comparative Law) and Stockholm (EU Law). It's a similar sort of situation where the assumption is that MR = 999 means admission.

Where did you study? I did my degree at ANU, finished last year and still in Canberra. It seems like studying in Sweden without tuition fees is a pretty well kept secret in Australia. Everyone I spoke to about it had no idea and were amazed by how generous Sweden is in this regard.

Why did you prefer Lund? I guess you wouldn't know how well regarded the Stockholm EU Law course is?
