Estate Planning LLM
I have a question and am seeking others thoughts and advise on this subject. I am interested in Miami's LLM in Estate Planning program. I know all about the reputation of their program and realize it is top notch. But what do you guys think about employment afterwards? It would cost at least an additional $35k worth of loan debt (on top of my $55k), and am concerned about recouping that money. In other words, do you guys think that the salary increase from the LLM/estate planning position would be worth more than leaving with a JD and practicing family law/contracts, etc.? I can clarify my question if it doesn't make any sense. I have been back and forth with this and would really appreciate any thoughts on the subject. Tue Feb 12, 2008 08:11 PM Thanks! |

If you can get in, I'd go... great school ...great field... your debt is small compared to most, and you will pay it off fast ...Sun Feb 17, 2008 02:34 AM I'm also interested in estate planning but slightly more interested in tax, and I just got into Georgetown for Fall '08 to get my LL.M. in tax + Estate Planning Certification ... I'm thinking it will be (hopefully) more marketable to have both the tax and EP, rather than one or the other... But, if you're more into EP than tax, go for it at Miami, and don't worry about cost ...also, if you're working and going for your LL.M. part-time, your employer very well may pay. |

I know 2 attorneys with U. Miami LLM Taxation. Both sole practioners that spend their day preparing trusts and wills. Now that's exciting!
