How would you rate the following schools ?

NYU
Berkeley
Duke
BU (with scholarship)
GW

Does that sound right ? I think Berkeley and Duke should be before NYU and possibly BU too. What do you think ?

Dumdedum,

On what basis do you want have them ranked? It depends on a number of factors:
1. what you want out of the experience, ie better job prospects, and this depends on what you want to do (ie firms work/academia)
2. area of law. I would say Yale is pretty bad in IP, for example, but great in other areas
3. where you want to live
4. etc

There are a range of things you need to take into account. I think you need to be more specific about you question and if you can't be more specific, then the best advice I can offer is to look at the official ranks.

I think my major factor is the most prestigious faculty in terms of securing jobs after graduation. I'm not sure that the rankings are correct here, for example NYU with its large class compared to small classes like Duke etc.

I think if your main concern is securing employment after graduation in a firm, then the times rankings will be your best guide. The size of the LLM class should have no bearing on your decision. The LLM at NYU is large - granted - but it is also made up of many different components (ie the large tax program that mainly attracts US JD grads), whereas the other programs at NYU are only 70-90, which is only slightly larger than other top schools.

Also, I don't know wheher you should even rank Yale if your reason for pursuing the LLM is firm work - the course at Yale is directed exclusively at those wishing to pursue an academic career.

I agree with jasonjb, but I'm having the same deliberations....

I think it's an advantage to have a small class over a large class for work employment as well, unless you indeed take the TAX llm of NYU which is very prestigious as I understand. I would rate Duke before NYU in this regard, but I'm not sure, I'm thinking about that as well.

in terms of job prospects - i don't think that class size makes that much difference
as the previous poster mentioned, the llm program at nyu is composed of people with lots of different interests eg international tax, intl legal studies (many of which are interested in public interest work) so the class size in corporate wont be that much larger than other schools
in addition a larger class means that there are many more lawyers with law degrees from nyu - making it easier to network.

I need to decide between BU and Duke. Interest is IP but also general (not sure). What do you think ?? And should scholarship matter for this decision ?

Hello, if you are more interested in IP, you should choose Duke over BU. As if the scholarship matters, only you can answer this question since we can't evaluate your financial status for you. I don't know how it goes there in Boston, but I had a great time at Duke. I turned down a partial scholarship offer from WashU to attend Duke, and I never regret it.
