If you are truly interested in intellectual property and technology law then you cannot beat Edinburgh. Key faculty such as Waelde, Laurie and MacQueen are top in their field and extremely supportive of students. The availability of the AHRC Research Centre for Studies in Intellectual Property and Technology Law www.law.ed.ac.uk/ahrc/ is unique to Edinburgh and provides a wealth of information and opportunity for students. There is also an excellent online journal specific to the topics covered by this particular LLM which can be found at www.law.ed.ac.uk/ahrc/script-ed/ .Tue Apr 01, 2008 02:27 PM Good luck! |

Best European Universities in Information Technology Laws?
HelloSat Jun 21, 2008 09:20 AM I really need an advice regarding the master in Law and Information Technology (or Droit et nouvelles technologies, Droit du multimedia et des systemes d'information in France) I have been accepted in Tilburg university (Netherlands) , Stockholm, and Essex that start at the end of August while i am still waiting replies from France: Strasbourg, Lille 2 et Toulouse. The point is that French universities will reply me at the end of July and i have no idea what to do....because i need to decide fast(!) so as to find an accommodation for example in stockolm or in tilburg and move in August. I have heard that Stockholm has a very good master but what about Tilburg or Strasbourg (Robert Schuman)? Are they good enough?? I haven't still found someone that had previous experiences from these universities in order to help me decide and as you understand i am a bit stressed....!!! I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me upon this!! What do you advice me to do...?? Thank you very much [Edited by jul on 21 Jun 2008] |

There's a specialized IT LLM programme called EULISP (European Legal Informatics Study Programme).Fri Jul 17, 2009 01:12 PM It is offered by a consortium of 11 European universities, including Bologna (Italy), Glasgow (UK), Hannover (Germany), Leuven (Belgium), London (UK), Namur (Belgium), Oslo (Norway), Rovaniemi (Finland), Stockholm (Sweden), Vienna (Austria) and Zaragoza (Spain). May be worth a look. www.llm-guide.com/university/192/gottfried-wilhelm… [Edited by Erkan on 17 Jul 2009] |

It may well depend on the institution to which you apply and also your experience - have you had any exposure to law or law-related subjects whether at an academic level or from practical experience. Also, the courses may vary - some are more policy driven, which may be more accessible to those from a non-law background, whereas technical, black letter approaches might be too alien unless you've got some familiarity with legal reasoning already. I guess the short answer is 'it depends so ask the institutions'. Note also an LLM will not qualify you to practise as a solicitor/barrister.
