Rej, are you from Brazil? BTW, Stanford is the same, no special rules for LLMs, same classes of the JDs, no extra time for exams. I agree with this. Regards,

Chicago's policy towards LL.M. students definitely makes your year a very challenging experience. Besides the Socratic method....

I have just sent an email refusing the offer of Chicago. It was a tough decision, since all the references I received re. the program are great. I think all other accepted applicants that already know that will not accept the offer should do the same asap. Best of luck to all applicants still waiting for a response!

Hey L&E-pil, Perhaps you may want to wait for Yale. :) If you got in Chicago, that gives you more than a fair shot at Yale (or Harvard). I think Yalies consider Chicago their "rival" school. Although I have to agree, Chicago has a very strong Law and Economics bent. - Vogelfrei |

Hey vogelfrei, it's been a long time since I last saw you posting in this board! Welcome back! I'll just have to wait for a month to be sure. I think many people confront the same issue. Harvard, Yale and Stanford (personally, didn't apply there) is what most of us wait for. Especially, Harvard should have received thousands of applications. The great majority of people I've spoken to in this board has applied to Harvard "cause you never know what happens". Tue Feb 26, 2008 07:13 AM Chicago seems to be more academic, so it doesn't surprise me that Yale sees it as a peer law school [Edited 26 Feb 2008 by L&E-pil] |

Hello guys how are you all? I am asking for your assistance in am important seminar presentation which I have been given due to be presented in two weeks. Tue Feb 26, 2008 02:04 PM I have been asked to pretend to by the manager of a bank providing practical and legal advise on the two scenario below: Three requests for references (status enquiries) on your good customer, Rita Sullivan, wealthy elderly lady, who owns and runs the local post office. The requests are from a car loan company, a credit card issuer and a hire purchase lender, and the repayments enquired about are all substantial. you know Rita well and see her regularly. She has often said that, at her age, she was glad to be able to pay on-the-dot for everything she needed, and she had no wish to be encumbered by any debt, as she could afford to pay cash for anything she wished to acquire. You are also aware that recently her handbag containing passport, driving licence and bank cards was stolen at and airport on her return from holidays abroad and your branch had arranged to stop her stolen bank cards and issue her new ones. The other scenario is: An email from a local businessman who owns a Mini-Market. He says that several relatives in India are wishing to transfer funds from India to the UK, to be kept on deposit pending businesss investments locally. Following the Northern Rock debacle, he asks for confirmation from you of the extent of any government guarantees for depositors placing money in UK banks. Kind appreciate your time and patience for reading and I look forward to hearing your advises. Thank you. I am desperate for you help. |

Wed Feb 27, 2008 07:54 AM Hey vogelfrei, it's been a long time since I last saw you posting in this board! Welcome back! I'll just have to wait for a month to be sure. Hey L&E-pil, Never realized it but indeed, I have been away from the board for quite a long time. I have been swamped at work and after having submitted my application for You-know-where, I tried to forget it for the moment and concentrate on work--otherwise I might fall into the pitfall of anxiety; which I have fallen into anyway. Hope you are having a better time waiting. At least you have one of the law schools you applied to reply positively. This is the problem with waiting for just one, I guess. There's a feeling of falling into an abysmal pit and the promise too of floating in the air. Hope we all float! - vogelfrei I can't wait to get back to an academic environment again. |

Chicago Admission!
Hey folks, Good to meet you! I just discovered your discussion; I´m Goring and I was also admitted at the end of february! The idea of studying at Chicago is most appealing, I just kept asking myself if I could meet people that were selected for extracurricular activites that show their concern for society and their curiosity for various fields or if the admission was purely based on academic and professional achievements. I was a bit concerned weather students at the UoChicago are equally interested to be in touch with other people; this ongling discussion and the easyness of your comments make me quite sure about it! My only concern about Chicago is that the "life of the mind" does not necessarily take place within vespertine discussions but all alone with books; anyway, do you think students at UoChicago can also be easy and humorous about their subjects or is there a total and unconditioned seriousness? Hope to hear from you and to meet most of you! Going
