BU interview (Banking and Financial Law)

Dear all,

I just finished a phone interview with BU Banking & Financial Law a few days ago. The questions I took were not too easy.(kind of academical questions). The interviewer (Mr. Martin, he is really nice) told me they will make decion by mid of March.

Anyone get admitted to this program? How is your interview? I am wondering whether taking a interview is a good sigh to get admission......any related information posted would be highly appreciated. :)

Good luck to all of you!
Manny

To Manny Ramirez :

I was admitted to their American Law LL.M. I hope my experience helps.

As I know, the phone interview from BU is a requirement, not optional. I got the admission 3 days right after the interview. Along with the admission, they also offered me a very generous scholarship ($20,000).

And personally, I think the main pruposes of the interview are: to let the interviewer evaluate your speaking ability and your understanding of your interested subject(s) or professional experience(s) mentioned in your SOP/Resume, if any. My interview went pretty well with their director John N. Riccardi, whose passion impressed me most favorably. Good luck !

i just had a phone interview. It went very well. Basically I was told --they only interview people they will admit. Unless you bump the interview, you are in.

Hello, a question here. Do they make an appointment with you for phone interview in advance? How long do you wait for them to arrange an interview with you after your application is complete? Is a foreigner phone number ok?

Thanks!

Two weeks after my application was completed they sent an email requesting an interview. You have to give them 2 days youŽll able to call them. Then they tell you when you have to call and who you are talking with.
In my case, 2 weeks after the interview I received an admission offer.
Hope it helps!

Can anyone confirm this info?
I thought the interview is the requirement of application.

According to BU's website , the phone interview is a requirement . Even you got the phone interview , it does not guarantee you will eventually get in. I know at least 3 applicants(2 for Banking and Financial Law program , 1 for IP program) who got the phone interview, but were turned down in the long run.

to mnementh:

hmm...to be honest, the offer is really generous and can ease my financial burden for sure. Besides, the faculty of BU are SUPER nice ( what I mentioned above would be two hard factors attracting me to accept , I gotta say) ; the only condition I will turn it down would be when admission letters from NYU or UCB's IP program lay down in my mail box next week. How about you ?

Hi !

I took a telephone interview exactly 2 weeks ago and I thought it went very well. They say they answer within two weeks but I saw on that forum that many got their answers earlier.

Did anyone received an admission decision? how long after the interview ?

Thanks !!

Hi KarenLLM,

I've been interviewed on Feb 20, and I got the admission on about Feb. 27. However, when I was interviewed, the interviewer told me my decision will be made by the second week of March. Hope it is helpful to you.

Hi,

Can anyone give me the example of questions they ask, there's one guy said that it's kind of academic but since I'm a foreign student I don't see how academic my interview could be.

I am so nervous, they haven't confirm the interview date yet, oh my god! What should I do!

Help me please!

Thanks, but can you give me some example of their questions?

By the way I applied for the Banking and Financial law, hope it'll be as calm and at ease as yours.

Hey sukpanich3 !

I applied to their American Law program and that's my experience: cool down !

I had questions such as"what are you interested in? what courses do you think you'll take? do you know Boston? Do you want to take the NY bar exam?"

They want to check your english level and your motivation. You can go on BU's website and know more about the university and their programs so that you can show them how motivated you are.

Technically, it's not because you're an international student that they can't ask academic questions but it just doesn't seem to be the purpose of the interview. I think you're referring to a guy who was asked about his DEA thesis, maybe the thesis subject interested the interviewer but I really don't think the purpose was to test his knowledge. It's a pleasant conversation more than a strict and formal interview.

I was just like you before I took mine but there's nothing to worry about, they don't want to trick you.

Hope it helps ! Good luck to you !

Hi, sukpanich3

Please be careful because interviewer differs by the program you applied.

I took interview of Banking program and asked some financial related topics.

It was tough for me because I am not native English speaker.
However, I made best effort to appeal my academic interest on financial practice throughout the interview, and it was successful !

I hope this will help.

It's true that the American Law program covers a wide range of topics while the Banking and Finance one is much more specific and may favor academic questions...

Hi all,

Could any one tell me what the status of BU applicants is when they are as to set up a phone interview? are all applicants or only shortlisted ones subjected to that interview?

Thanks for your answer.

They usually contact you within 1 or 2 weeks after your application is complete and I think the interview is a requirement for all applicants.

I just did mine yesterday...wish me luck!

FYI: i just took the phone interview with Mr. Martin from BU last Friday. They will inform me of their decision by this Friday. Mr. Martin's words "I am very satisfied with the interview..." and "We probably meet you here in August..." give me a good hint on my interview outcome.
