Dear all,Wed Feb 27, 2008 11:08 AM I sent my application to CLS before the January 14 deadline. To this very day, I have not heard back from the admission board. No standard confirmation email, no indication whether my application file was complete - nothing, nichts, rien. Consequently, I sent them an email several weeks ago, asking some questions about the status of my application, including the most essential question of all: if my file has arrived at all. Again, I got no answer. I gave it a second try yesterday - but, as expected, no reaction at all. To be honest, this has really turned into a nightmare. My grades are surely good enough for the top 10, so I didn't apply to too many law schools, having been assured by Professors with some Chicago experience that "Chicago is no problem". But it seems that the "Law School of my dreams" (sorry, no irony here) has no interest in my application at all. I surely don't want to paint the devil on the wall, but I fear the worst now. Creg,Wed Feb 27, 2008 03:16 PM I think you should not worry that much about it. Just the same happened to me. I have never received any email from U of C in regard of the completion of my application. I sent them two emails asking about my status and got no response back. I was really worried about it just as you are right now, specially because Chicago is also my first choice. However, surprisingly I did receive last Friday the admission email from Chicago!!! Therefore, I do think you should contact them anyway, but do not worry that much, you still can have the same happy end… Good luck!!! |

Thanks for your answer, Rio-Brazil!Wed Feb 27, 2008 06:15 PM It is somewhat comforting for me to realise that my case is not singular. Nevertheless, having heard from people who sent an email and received a response immediately, I am still quite concerned. I mean, how can it be that they answer some mails right after reception, and other not at all? It is clear that they get a lot of applications and that the administration is really time-consuming, but... |

I received the following email on 2/14. It would appear that if you haven't heard anything, then they just haven't gotten to your application yet.Wed Feb 27, 2008 09:52 PM Hello, We received all of the necessary documents, and your application file is complete. Your file has been submitted to the Graduate Studies Committee for evaluation. Please note that all applications were stamped with their date of postal arrival, so though you are receiving this notice after January 15, this is merely due to a lag time in processing during this busy season. The Committee will make three types of decisions: admission, deny, and standby group (waiting list). It is our policy to send you these decisions via email as soon as they are made. It could be as simple as an error in entering your email address into their database. This would account for you not receiving any notification about your application (i.e. the email was sent to the wrong address). And it may account for the non-responsiveness, because if your real email address is not their system as an "applicant" it might get treated like the copious spam they no doubt receive. Thu Feb 28, 2008 02:44 AM Dear all, You are not alone. In fact, my situation is even worse than yours. As I said in other topic, I sent my application and all materials in early december and I have sent 3 emails with no answer so far. I have had the same problem with my application to NYU, but I have sent them an email and only a few hours later I got a positive answer. I will take the advice and give them a call. That's the only way. |
