I think about doing a general LL.M., taking the bar and living in the U.S. for a few years before returning home.

I know that USC is to 20, but they care about their LL.M. students and prepare them for the Californian bar. Furthermore, they have a very good alumni network, which is helpful to find a job afterwards.

Berkeley is top 10, but how about everything else? Is it worth choosing Berkeley over USC just because of the ranking?

Hi Marli,
I've been told that it's getting harder for foreigners (who are not already attorneys in their home country) to be admitted to take the California bar exam with only an LL.M. So, to my mind, if you are not already an attorney, getting the CalBar should'nt be your first critera in opting for a law school.
But I understand it's difficult to make a choice, since the USC administration seems really nice adn willing to help.

I know that USC offer special course to help LL.M. students prepare the bar exam, but I am not sure the course is exclusive for the Californian bar( since my friend who is a USC LL.M. student did pass the NY Bar exam), you should contact the school to make sure this.
USC also had a unique tradition, they assign one JD student to assist one LL.M student, which means you'll have some one to borrow the note or ask questions.
So far as I know, USC did have very good reputation in care LL.M students.

I wonder how many LL.M. students in USC's 2008-2009 LL.M program... (Berkeley : 100)

marly, I was in the same situation and I've just confirmed my seat in USC's program. I know a friend who studied there and I heard just the best about the program and the school.
Hope to meet you in USC.
