Acceptance at Harvard, Stanford, Yale and Columbia
Hi, does anyone know people who have been admitted to all of the above schools (HLS, SLS, YLS, CLS)? Given that these schools seem to like different profiles, it must be very hard to get admission from all of them. Does anyone know someone who has been admitted?Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:15 PM Which one is hardest to get into? |

Dear verdad,Sat Mar 08, 2008 07:06 AM That would be quite an achievement! As you rightly mentioned these four top law schools do look for different profiles with a common element of excellance, so it may be a seemingly impossible task.. Unfortunately I dont know of any such person. As far as which ones the hardest one to crack is concerned, I would believe SLS would take that trophy merely because of its small class size of 15+15 (which effectively come down to an applicant competing for one of the 15 seats). |

I quite agree. It would have to be SLS. This year's corporate class will only be 10 and Yale admits ca. 100, HLS 200 (?). Would be great to have the choice between the top four universities in the United States, wouldn't it?Sat Mar 08, 2008 03:32 PM am2008 |

The fourth top university is NYU, not CLS. Sat Mar 08, 2008 04:00 PM [Edited 08 Mar 2008 by Dumdedum] |

Wed Mar 19, 2008 02:01 AM The fourth top university is NYU, not CLS. Quite right, NYU is the 4th in US NEWS rankings. But the profile for admission to NYU is distinctly different, whereas the other four have more in common, notably the work experience and possibly the emphasis on some kind of excellence. |

Wed Mar 19, 2008 05:06 AM The fourth top university is NYU, not CLS. Well I did not mean to demean NYU and I do agree with you when you mention USnew ranking of CLS and NYU. However many people feel otherwise and USnew is not the only agency ranking available. There are others who rank Yale, SLS, HLS and CLS in the top four. And may be because of its sheer number of admits every year in LL.M (450 students) its suddenly doesn't seem to be difficult to get thru to NYU as opposed to the other four top law schools. Kobayashi_08, if you have indeed cracked thru to Yale, SLS, HLS and CLS, Congratulations! That quite a phenomenal feat! |

As regards difficulty, Yale's LLM has only between 23 and 30 seats. Acceptance rate is 8%.

I applied only to Columbia and got in: so I am 100% happy!Thu Mar 20, 2008 11:48 AM Anyway being admitted to all four law schools is for sure an amazing achievement since they have very different admission criteria. [Edited 20 Mar 2008 by Sloan] |

Each school has its distintive qualities and attracts different group of applicants. Yale mostly appeals to ppl with academic career prospects. Where as Harvard and Columbia lean more towards business law.Sat Mar 22, 2008 05:29 AM It also depends on what kind of specialization you want to have for your LLM. I personally prefer CLS since it is more prominent in the market in the area of coporate finance. Some universities offer specialized llm (e.g. Tax, international finance or comparative law). Standford only offers general and IP llm. The leiter ranking is also useful for finding specialization of each law school. Personally, I find admission to HLS somewhat ... For my country, the persons who got offerred were mostly the top of their class in their llb (despite very short working experience) or those who have strong connection. There are a few lawyers I know who are among the best and brightest of their peers and didn't get offer from HLS while a few with top llb grades (but not that outstanding in other aspects) got admitted.
