Benefit of a Criminal Law LLM

Hi everyone! I'm going into my 3rd year of law school at Cooley (I know, womp womp--I just had to stay local bc my husband got deployed to Iraq. Plus, my scholarship was phenomenal.) and I am considering applying to Buffalo to get an LLM in Criminal Law. I'm just wondering if it's worth my time and money. I know I'm going to a mediocre (to put it kindly) school, and I'm looking for something to give me an edge in the market. I would love to get a job at a firm, but I also would love to go into private practice. Is there anyone out there practicing criminal law that can tell me whether this is worth the extra 20 grand, or would I be better off just working my way up straight out of law school? Thanks everyone!

I practiced criminal law and can't think of one criminal law attorney who had an LL.M. You are probably better off just going into criminal law when you pass the bar exam. I would suggest you apply for DA and PD jobs as those jobs will provide you with invaluable criminal law experience.
