Wondering they finished selection and are already sending out notices...

Hi Aliya. We definetely have to get in touch. I'll send you an e-mail.
As to the phone interview, it took about 15 min. and was very generic, related to my practice in Brazil and in the US. We also discussed the format of the LLM and the purpose of attending it. It was a more a friendly conversation than an interview.

Hi! I was admitted to SPILS! I received the email on Friday 14 March. Later, that afternoon, I also received a phone call. I was totally blocked at that call! Two days after the call I realized that I had a missed call from the same number at my cell phone from Tuestay 11. Maybe I "missed" the phone interview...
I am very excited with the admission. I have to solve the financial situation yet.
I am from Argentina.
see you guys!

Hi all, I was admitted to the LST program. I'm from Australia and have 2 years of work experience in a local commercial law firm. I received a phone interview out of the blue at work in the morning and the admit email came through less than a week later. The call caught me off guard and lasted about 8 minutes. I was asked 5 questions and had the opportunity to ask a couple of my own.

Dina H,
Stanford has, overall, and edge over Columbia but, as to securities law, CLS may be better because it has the strongest ties with Wall Street.

Pitch, you are probably right especially that they have professor Coffee there. However the thing that's making me hesitant is the corporate governance specialization in SLS...i am honestly more passionate about SLS but the rational choice seems CLS!!! Decision has to be taken within the 27th either I pay the deposit or dont !!!! any other thoughts anyone??

Aus the phone interview was my most horrible experience, they called right after my grandmother's funeral and i didnt even tell them anything about it I just blankly answered the questions!!The interview was around 15-20 minutes

Congratulations to all of you and we are going to get together in a couple of months!

Aus08, we will be classmate!! One of my best friends is living in Melbourne...

Dina, sorry about your grandma. I personally would suggest SLS-- but If you want to look for a job at the east coast after your LLM studies are completed, CLS might be a better choice.

I am so glad people are now showing up in this post!

So far we've got Donald, ledvax, Dina H and myself in the CGP (Corporate) program; Wuhkong, aliya, jmdm and aus08 in the LTS (IP) program; and jcucmhe and demon (Demian) in the SPILS program.

Are you guys interested in setting up a group on FACEBOOK? If so, I will go ahead to set up one and send you each an invitation via PM.

Thanks Blooming - I think a Facebook group would be very worthwhile, especially for the LLMs/JSMs etc to communicate in preparation for the move to California! I know I have things I'd like to know about such as whether people are going with on-campus housing, and if so, which housing in particular.

housing seems like such an issue. i spent all night checking SLS and CLS websites where i finally decided on SLS!!! Housing is either a bed room with no bathrooms or a minimum of 2 sigle students apt.s we difintely need to discuss. Also lots of choices in terms of where!! SLS is such a beautiful place!!

I think there's more variety at SLS than that? I don't know what residence halls are (Crothers), but Escondido has studio apartments and 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Lyman has 2 bedroom apartments. Rains has 2 and 4 bedroom apartments. Personally, I'm inclined to share a 2 or even 4 bedroom apartment - always nice to have some company... preferably something close to the law school building.

Hi guys,

The group has been set up as "Stanford LLM 08-09". I am new to FB, so not quite sure if I did everything right in creating this group.

Please send me a PM with your facebook account, so that I can invite you.

To Dina, i would advise to pick Stanford (I am an alumni). Prof. Grundfest is a leading scholar in securities law. Check his profile on the school website.
Plus, you must realize that the LLM Corporate Governance will admit only 10-15 students in total, which means in practice that Stanford professors will know you by your first name when you ll study there. No comparison to being in a 120/150 student- LLM class at CLS.
You should also take into consideration your profile: if you have significant work experience, Stanford is a must-go since your classmates will have similar backgrounds; in other terms, you may not want to hang out with juniors if you have a mid-level/senior in your practice area (i m not saying of course that CLS takes in only juniors, but the profile of the class as a whole is definitively different from Stanford's).
As to the job search, no worries: if you come out of Stanford, you'll get doors open in Wall Street firms; location is not an issue in this respect.
Finally, your choice is NY v. California. Have in mind that you'll move to NY afterwards if you want to.
As to housing and to answer the question of another person in this thread, most of us had studios on their own or share a 2 bedroom apt with someone else (not from the law school, but any other grad school on campus) on Stanford campus, which is as beautiful as it seems on the website (pools, golf course, mediterranean architecture). Crothers is a hall where you share a room with someone else, or have a room on your own with the bathroom on the floor (i do not recommend it unless you are on a budget).
Think also about the alumni network: it s more exquisite to be an alumnus from Stanford, since between zero and 3 nationals of each country join the grad programs of the law school each year (same kind of rates for the business school, med school etc). Contrary to the common belief, large networks are not necessarily better since you get lost in a mass of alumni lawyers, while at Stanford, the handful of alumni lawyers can get in touch with business makers or leading scientists.
I hope this helps you make a decision.

To Black, I am Egyptian, I work for Baker & McKenzie, Cairo Office, securities practice group, mid level associate. Thank you so much for your note!! you dunno how helpful it is!! the points u rasied re.living in NYC afterwrads and the level of students make alot of sense. The alumnae point is actually quite surprising as I always believed in what you just refuted !!! My main problem is regarding work opportunities in securities regulations CLS v. SLS and obviously from your experience that never posed a problem !!!

Where are u working now and whats ur background if i may ask?

Thanks again also for giving us a vivd pic of how beautiful the campus is!

Dear all,

Yesterday I have received an email which said I was on the wait list (IP). The chance to integrate this LLM are now very small.

Congratulation to those admitted.
