b) I work in one of the biggest companies in the world
c) All my experience is based in Corporate and Financial matters.
d) The general rankings are clear, but there is no ranking for Corporate or Business Law.

Which LLM is the right one for me?

The LLM/Kellogg Program at Northwestern
Virginia LLM with concentration in Corporate Law
UCLA with concentration in Corporate Law
UPENN with concentration in Corporate Law

Need advice from you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sylvester, you should target at Upenn/Wharton and Northwester/Kellogg, for business and corporate matters, the certificate from those schools are the best!!

Thank you both,

The thing I’m not sure about UPENN + Wharton, is that the certificate form Wharton is issued by the Wharton Programs for Working Professionals, and not from Wharton Business School directly. I don’t know if that make a difference.

Northwestern gives you two titles: the LLM and the Certificate in Business Administration by Kellogg Business School directly.

Any thoughts?

Sylvester, I think that your colleagues at 'one of the big companies in the world' can give you better advices.
Although, Upenn = Ivy league, and its program is well recognized (Northwestern is a very good school, don't get me wrong).
Concerning the diploma(s) delivered, Quality is better than quantity, and I don't think you would have to justify it on a resumé. But this is my opinion.

Good luck!

phenixa85,

Thank you very much for your comments, Actually almost every one of my colleagues are not Lawyers, so their opinion is: choosing among Universities as UPENN and Northwestern, is choosing between two great Universities, Kellogg and Wharton are well known schools in the professional world, so either your choice is, you are in a win to win situation.

For that reason I want to ask lawyers about their opinion!

Mr Easter: Which is best NW, UVA, UCLA, UPENN in business related matters?

That's a tough one....

LLM UPenn and Northwestern are pretty equal in terms of quality of education and course offering. But UPenn has a better reputation in terms of ranking.

K is better than Wharton Certificate, because it is more comprehensive and is actually a mini-MBA, whereas Wharton Certi are not MBA courses, but rather WCWP courses.....

personally, I'm choosing Penn because I'm a prestige whore. But I get the feeling that the K/LLM program is much better, particularly if you want to get a taste of MBA or if you want to get Management training without spending 2 years at business school. NW grads are highly respected and has an exellent rep in the business community. Honestly, I don't think the US News ranking does NW justice. I think it's better thank Duke, Virg, Berkley, Mich; particularly if your a corporate man.

Thanks Mr Easter!

I think I’m going to choose Northwestern; the thing you said about the mini-MBA is crucial for me as a corporate lawyer.

I also know that the rankings can misinform us, and also can influence you by taking a wrong decision.

As an in-house counsel I can say that the MBA part will make the difference, also if I return to a law firm I will be able to take a more active roll in administration duties.

Thanks again!

Hey Sylvester, you're right, it is a win-/win dilemma indeed, but if you divide the pb by 2:
- which school is the best in law (among those you have quoted)
- which one is the best in business,

Upenn is very often the answer.

Even Kellogg published an article in this sense.
http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/news/hits/030916bw.htm

I hope it helps.

In any case, you cannot make a wrong choice, I would personnally chose Upenn. Now, I wish you all the best.

Dont get me wrong, but I think you really need to do an internal exercice and see I you want to take your business courses with MBA students or go with professionas from philly...
I am stating this because from this year, the Wharton program for the LLM is not going to be as past years (taking classes among MBA alumni) is going to have some restrictions, in witch to my personal point of view, not having the chance to intearct with the MBA students is deceiveng

Dear Sylvester

Hope my suggestion is helpful. It's a tough decision to make. Upenn definitly has the upper hand in terms of reputation, ranking and prestige. But the K program is the bomb (8 MBA course, compared to 3 WCWP course).

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. Employers will be impressed just by the UPenn/ NW name alone, and they rarely dissect and analyse the contents of the program to determine which candidate is more qualified (obviously K or WCWP are not substitutions for MBA). In a nutshell: for the purposes of getting a new job, it not about what you can do, its about what other people think you can do.

I didn't apply for the K program, but had I been offered the K program, my decision might have been different.

Good luck with your future plans. BTW, what are your qualifications/experiences? write to me at dunhillfinecut@gmail.com if you like.

Cheers
