I'd say it would be a close race between Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Yale.

Any suggestions? If you had offers from all, where would you go?

Thanks!

Those, of course, are the big 4. I'd say the choice between them cannot be based on quality (as all are equal), but rather on other factorcts, like particular specialization, particular profs you'd like to work with, cities you'd like to live in, and, of course, cost.

For me, a Canadian, I was much more interested in living in the UK than the USA, so I didn't bother applying to Yale or Harvard. In my view, the choice is not entirely driven by academic considerations: I also wanted to enjoy my year and jaunt over to switzerland for skiing in the winter and france for recreation in the summer. From my perspective, europe had America beat, hands down. However, had I lived my life in, say, London, thenmaybe I'd be more keen to travel to the US. As they say, different strokes....

Also, money: Cambridge's tution is, for a foreign student, about 11 punds (composition fee plus college fee). That's 23 000 canadian dollars. Harvard, I believe, is aroung 60 000 US dollars, whcih is about 60 000 canadian dollars. Well, absent a scholarship (which I have thus far not achieved), there is no way I'd pay tripple to go to harvard oer cambridge.

those are my two cents...

You have an offer from Harvard? When did you get it?

It’s hard to believe since HLS told all of us that the offers will be made on March 21!

Can you transcribe the HLS admission email in here?

I'm going to Cambridge, Cappa. I only applied there, as I have some personal history with the school and it was my top choice.
Where are you going? and where are you from?

One word : HARVARD.

It's considered the best domestically and internationally, and always has been. Yes it's true yale , stanford and other schools are great. But to me Harvard is the true best.

Second in the running is MIT. oh how i wish i can be that gifted .

I am afraid I must disagree with Jonnyboy that Harvard "always has been" considered the best international or U.S. law school, if only on a technicality - Harvard wasn't even founded until 1636, over 400 years after Cambridge, and more than 500 years after teaching started at Oxford.

That's over half a millennium of scholarly smack down, if you can smell what Oxbridge is cooking.

Def Berkeley!!!!

Would love to attend this great great school....

I live in the UK and there are some great schools as well, however I don't feel that attracted to both Oxford and Cambridge for no specific reason.

I was accepted in to Durham which I think is a very good school as well.

ok Bender my bad, looks like you got me. I didn't actualy research what i was saying. But in the end of line i would personally go to harvard. There's just such a beautiful ring to it when i say ...jonnyboy goes to Harvard. I'm not trying to take away anything away from other great education institutions (ie' Cambridge) but to me Harvard takes the cake. It's quite a subjective choice i guess, due to the number of great schools out there.

I always had problems with making choses... So many names and just one should be taken. If it would be a type of theoretical question, I would named Harward and Cambridge, no doubt. Though, in practice when the time came to apply, I chose LSE and UCL. It was not a question of the higher or lower reputations, money, rankings or graduate prospects. Because the dream LLM place is just where your heart is.

Yo Jonnyboy

I love the way you look at things....."jonnyboy goes to Harvard"...... BoooYaaa!

That's precisely how I made my decisions. What would I rather see behind my name?..... LLM Pennsylvania; LLM NYU, LLM Northwestern or LLM Duke.... In the end my prestige whoreiness got the better of me and I choose Penn, even though I got the feeling NW's corp program might be better.

We are so shallow. Don't you just love it? Fuck Yeah!!!

My "shallowness/whoreiness/hatred of bleeding heart liberals" also stopped me from applying to Berkley (even though it is one of the finest law schools), because I don't think I can stand the institution/professors/students' wannabe "hippy, PC, cry me a river/let's save the world/what about the baby seals" attitude.

In the undying words of Eric Cartman: "Hippies piss me off!!!"

First the faculty is first class, the courses are first class and the admissions pple are just amazing.
It being an ivy league school and in NYC doesn't hurt either!

Hey there!
Nice topic really, but you are all focusing on law schools which are located in the UK or the US...
Of course all law schools mentioned above are great!
There many excellent and highly reputated law schools outside the common law system, like Paris I,II, Stransbourg, Heidelberg, etc.
I got admission from Tilburg (The Netherlands) and I'm thinking about it...

Hi to everybody!!
I'm studying a LLB in Law at a European University. I'm also studying a degree in Economics. I'll be ready next year. I'd like to work for a magic circle law firm and I've alredy received some interesting offers from national law firms. I was thinking about studying a LLM in the USA, but I don't know if I should apply next year, just after having finished my degrees of I should accept one of those offers, get some experience for 2 or 3 years and then do the LLM.

Could somebody help me?

Thanks a lot.
