USC w/ merit Scholarship v. UCLA or Berkeley
Hi all,Mon Mar 17, 2008 08:58 AM I'm facing a dilemma and thought that someone here could give me some thoughts. I want to pursue my LL.M in CA and have been admitted to these three schools. Because I have reasons to live in LA, Berkeley is being discarded, which would narrow my options down to UCLA and USC. Even though UCLA appears to have an edge as far as rankings and international reputation are concerned, I've heard that the two are equally regarded locally. I also heard that USC gives way more attention to international students than UCLA, not to mention that USC is offering a nice "merit scholarship" that will significantly reduce the cost of the LL.M. and that can 'embellish' my resume. I just want to make sure that I am not making a mistaken decision. What would you do in my place (neighborhoods and courses are not at issue)? Thanks! [Edited 17 Mar 2008 by CAfan] |

USC and UCLA basically have the same rep in Southern California. You will have a better LL.M experience at USC.

Richard, what you say does not surprise me (several other people whom I've been talking to have expressed the same position), but would you mind sharing with us why do you say that?Tue Mar 18, 2008 06:24 AM The rest of you, I'm glad to hear from those who are going to USC. UCLA vs. Hastings
Hi All,Tue Apr 01, 2008 07:51 PM I have received acceptance fromHastings and UCLA. I work in San Francisco, close to Hastings but will have to move out to LA if I choose UCLA. Any thoughts on which school has a better LL.M program for business and securities law and whether UCLA is preferred over Hastings by lawfirms. Or are both the schools equally ranked by employers? |

I just finished the LLM program at Hastings.Tue May 20, 2008 07:31 AM The school is a good one, with some outstanding professors. We had also the chance to choose from a big variety of classes, but that was after all not an advantage. The director of the program is very self-oriented and a bad advisor (academically and professionally). In the end, most of my LLM fellows avoided him, me included, and some fellows regreted therefore having choosen Hastings over other schools. And if you like campus live, Hastings is in the middle of the tenderloine! Good Luck |
