I am current PhD student at Edinburgh and know all of the 07-08 Legal Research LLM students as we all attend one seminar together...do you have questions about the programme or are you looking for numbers? Around 5 places have been offered to my knowledge but I am not sure as to how many have accepted thus far. There are typically about 140 or so LLM students generally at Edinburgh each year so don't let the small numbers for the specific programme scare you off. The Research LLMs have the benefit of working closely with PhD students and the entire LLM body. Best of both worlds!

In what field of law are doing your PhD? I may be interested in doing a PhD at Edinburgh and I was wondering if you could give me further information on the programme, the supervisors, etc...

In human rights treaty law. The programme has been great. I am in the first year that they have fun a PhD training programme which brings in innovative ways to encourage PhD students to utilise each other to benefit individual work. These include things like in-depth research seminars, presentations throughout the programme, publication of work, reading groups to expand knowledge in various fields...you can see some of the activitis by checking out www.law.ed.ac.uk/communities/mainview.aspx?ref=4
As far as supervisors go, it is always a work in progress. The first year is a lot about learning how to best work together as every supervisor/supervisee relationship is different. I would suggest doing a bit of research on faculty in your area of interest and possibly dropping them an email prior to applying to see if it a topic which they would like to supervise...it helps!
There is also a quite active social group for PhDs which helps keep it not such a lonely endeavor...a huge bonus!
All in all, I have not regretted my choice of Edinburgh even once. If you have any further questions, please let me know.
