To HLS admitted students, questions regarding TOEFL requirement
To all dmitted students, congratulation for your great acheivements. Sat Mar 22, 2008 03:24 AM Since all of u r the real persons who got admission by ur own expereince, can u help me to correct my doubt about TOEFL requirement at HLS? Are there any persons who got admission at HLS with TOEFL below the requirement? I heard that if ur TOEFL lower than its requirement, HLS indicates that u will be in very disadvantage position comparing with other competitors but HLS will still consider ur application. Is it real that there may be some applicants who has TOEFL lower than requirement admitted by the program? I realize that TOEFL is just only one factor (got 120 doesn't mean to guarantee ur place, if ur grade, SOP, recommendation and etc. aren't outstanding enough) but I still doubt so please help me by answer my questions. If ur score doesn't reach requirement, how low is it? (lower than 100 or just some sections lower than 25?) and How high the score you use to apply? Thank you, Noname [Edited 23 Mar 2008 by noname] |

mine wasn't lower than what they required, but I was told that HLS does not reject an applicant just because of his/her less than stellar TOEFL score. so, I don't think your TOEFL score alone determines your chances of acceptance. Having said that, if I were you I would consider retaking the test, assuming your score is below the requirement, and save my application from a red flag. Hi noname! Here's the thing:Sun Mar 23, 2008 04:15 PM Admission to HLS with a TOEFL below 100 is very difficult but never impossible. It will all come down to the rest of applicants and their credentials. If your score is not 100 or more I would recommed you to apply to HLS and inmediately schedule a new TOEFL test date. The bottom line is that if your credentials are very strong (grades, recommendations, personal stament, essay, etc.) they will contact you to ask you to take the TOEFL again in order to get a 100+ score. By doing this, HLS will be giving you some sort of a second chance to be admitted. However, if your actual score is under 95 points I don't think you'll ever get that second chance. Thank you for your answers. Sun Mar 23, 2008 05:21 PM I just wonder if there are any flexible rules for TOEFL. In some case, I wonder when applicant's score is higher than requirement (100) but there may be some problems to get 25 in each section. I also realize that TOEFL is only one factor. I know that HLS states that it still considers application anyway (although ur score lower than requirement) but I'm not sure about the result in the real world. TOEFL can't make u in but maybe it can make u out. Thank you for solving my doubt. Best, Noname Ps. Congratulation again. Hi noname,Sun Mar 23, 2008 06:09 PM I know a guy, whose TOEFL score is slightly below 100, just got the admission to HLS this year. In addition, another friend of mine also got admission to HLS this year, even though his speaking section was below 25. However, both of these guys got SUPER excellent GPAs, class rankings, and great working experiences in their resumes. Therefore, in the real world, I believe TOEFL score is NOT the ONLY condition to be considered by the admission committee of HLS. Good luck! [Edited 23 Mar 2008 by MannyRamirez] |
