New York/Calif. Bar Exams
I am a Bar Exam tutor qualified in three states in the U.S living in London, UK. If any LLM or other law graduates are interested in taking the New York or California bar exams this July 2008, please contact me for bar prep. I can either tutor you in person in the UK or by phone/e-mail from any location. Have worked for a bar prep course in the US and can grade essays.

Yes. If you obtain an LLM degree from a common law juridiction like the UK, then you can sit for the bar exam either in NY or California. You can visit the NY Board of Bar Examiners website for more info on eligibility. It takes roughly about 2-3 months preparation depending on your level of study. I charge £100 per hr. Usually people need about 6-10 hrs preparation as far as tutoring, not inclusive of their own self study. The exam is at the end of July 2008 and most people beging studying in early May.

I have been denied eligibility by NY Bar Exam Board to sit in NY Bar exam unless I complete additional 20-hours credit programme in ABA approved law school. I have 3-years law degree from Indian University and NY Bar Exam Board office says that while I do meet the durational requirement, Law degree from India does not qualify for substantiveness. Can u please guide me on this with your experience and how to overcome their objection that the Indian law degree does meet their requirement to sit in Bar exam. I intend to take NY Bar in July 2008 subject to getting eligibility confirmation. I need your inputs on this.Mon Apr 14, 2008 07:21 AM Thanks |

For the moment ypu dont have a chance, sorry to say this, but 20 credits is like a year attending at a law school, so youmujst reschedule to at least july 2009, and that is if you have been accepted already to a LLM program at a ABA approved law school, I think that you can beat some deadlines, if not you will have to apply around october to start the program at summer 2009 and then sit on the bar on 2010... |

New York/Calif. Bar Exams
I have studied law almost for 5 years in the republic of georgia where I sat bar exam as well and qualified which is of course not common law jurisdiction. After that I did my LLM in London full-time. Now I am doing my GDL or CPE in another words part-time (2 years). I am interested to qualify in NY or California and would like to know whether I will be eligible to sit either NY or California bar exam upon completion of my GDL? And if not what do I have to do in order to be eligible? Will taking another 2 modules and obtaining LLB help? Do I have to do LPC? I do also have work experience in a law firm in the UK. Can anybody advise.
