Hi! I've been admitted to Temple (LLM for international Lawyers). I am really want to join this school, but many of my friends told me that it is dangerous to live in this city. Is this true? If you have experience living in this city, could you please tell me?
I appreciate for you help.

hey pari!

I'm going to American U and will thus be living in Washington DC and people told me the exact same thing! But I've experienced living in Philadelphia (I studied there for 2 months) and I asked about Washington and yes there is a dangerous neighbourhood like in about every city in the US and probably in the world (it's just considered more dangerous in the US for us Europeans because of people being allowed to wear guns and the violence and everythin...)

But seriously I've lived in Philly and what I can tell you about it is that the weather is nice (kinda humid in the summer but you'll like it cause it's also very hot), the city isn't too big, you can walk from north to south in about an hour or so, but it isn't too small either (there are malls and parks inside the city and there are bigger malls and parks like 30min-1h away from the city) it's quite but the center is busy (clubs, bars, nice restaurants...), it's perfectly located (for $20 you can get a roundtrip ticket to NYC by bus and to Washington for $40, it's also near the shore and the beaches are really nice), it's a cultural, historical city (you can learn loads about the US and just a short bus ride from Philly takes you to the Amish County), there's a wonderful market (like an actual european market...with nice food in it :D)

Seriously, it'll be a wonderful experience! What your friends were saying is what people told me when I got there: don't go to West Philly! (And even that shouldn't be an absolute rule....when I was there we got to do some community service in West Philly and people were so nice to us ...)...but still at the beginning, especially alone, don't go there :-)

So if you really want to go to Temple, then do so! Philly shouldn't be your turn down! Philly rocks!
