Questions about deferral, please help me!
Hi everybody.Wed Mar 26, 2008 06:55 AM I have a few questions regarding deferral. I’ve been admitted to NYU, Chicago and Georgetown. But before going to the States, I might want stay for another year in Europe in order to go to a university here. I’ve managed to figure out that for both NYU and Georgetown, deferral can be granted but you’re then forced to enrol, or at least you’re not allowed to enrol or apply elsewhere. Does anybody know about Chicago’s deferral policy? The degree from the university I might attend in Europe would certainly increase my chances of admission at a Law School such as Harvard. If I defer my admissions, I know I can’t apply to Harvard, Columbia etc next year. Is it worth giving up my admissions at NYU/Chicago/Georgetown in order to be able to apply to other universities next year? I’m tempted to do so, but it’s scary as well. If I turn down a university this year, what are my chances to be readmitted? I will certainly apply to the same ones next year in order to be secured a place somewhere. I’ve read that sometimes, when students aren’t granted deferral, they reapply the year after and are admitted. Maybe I should ask for deferral with a lame reason and I would most likely not get it and simply have to reapply next year. Just turning them down would most probably lessen my chances of readmission next year. What do you think? Thanks! |

Hi. To my view, if you managed to get admitted in NYU, chicago and georgetown this year, you'll do the same or more for next year (with more education in your cv)! just try to be polite when you explain them that your plans have changed... ; )
