Hi all,
I got accepted at the Geneva Academy for International humanitarian law and I plan to accept. However, I will be going to Geneva at the end of June and stay there till the beginning of the program in order to take French language courses over the summer. I am looking for an apartment right now either for the summer or straight from the summer till October 2009. If I find anything suitable, is anybody interested in sharing the space for the summer to cut the costs?

Hi Tanya,
I have also been accepted to the Academy, and am planning to accept. So I'm starting to try to figure out living arrangements, but I have no idea where to look. Do you know if residences are a good option, or if I should look outside of Geneva..., or what areas are good? I know I'm only pl;anning to get there in September, so I can't help you for your search, but maybe you know anything about the city, and it would really help me out..

thanks a lot!
best of luck!

Hi guys!!!!
I have been accepted to the Acamedy...but I have a dilemma...we all received the email, roght? but is it a FINAL decision of admission, or is it only a first step? If the academy accepted our application, the University can reject the enrolment, or not?

I'm a little bit in trouble...and I'm sorry...but I would appreciate some help...!!!

thanks a lot!

Fulvia.

this sucks, I just repliedtothe post and it disappeared.
OK, here I go again.
Hello all! As far as I know, once academy accepts us, we have to register at the university of geneva and send a proof of registration to teh academy to let them know we are serious about teh program and then they will considerus for scholarships. Given that we have to pay the tuition (portion of it) to the academy before we even find out fromthe university if they accept us, I contacted the acadmy adn askedif there were any cases when students who were accepted by teh academy were refused by the university. They said there were no such cases. So, it's a redundant process, in that we have to submit school documents all over again, but it looks risk free.
Related question - has anybody received anything from teh academy by regular mail. Their email said that they will mail us the confirmation as well, but I still haven't got anything by regular mail.
as for the apartments, there are a couple of websites by apartment agents, but I have to search my bookmarks. Once I find them, I will post them (this week). As for residences, they look as expensive as the apartments, and you have to apply early (at least 3 months), some charge a fee in advance. So, they are pretty pricy. Idon't know the neighbourhoods in Geneva, as I never was there. I am Canadian, but I am studying in Austria now. I hope to go to Geneva in May to check out apartments, but with courses every day, it's tricky to find a couple of free days.
Anyway, good luck to all and keep in touch.

Hi all!
looks like we're all in the same boat here... if I find anything for apartments I will also let you know.. I have been on craigslist to get an idea of how much everything is... i've seen a lot of 2 bdr apartments that look fine, and I've been trying to talk to just about anyone who has gone to Geneva before to know what spots are good, or not... but I won't get to go before September so i'll try to figure something out, but any bit of information would help me a lot... best of luck in your search, and I guess we'll all meet in September!

Hi all - I've been accepted, too. I was also accepted to Leiden University's MAS in International Criminal Law. Decisions, decisions. I did receive a print letter by the way which stated that the deposit is due by May 15. We should all figure out a way to get in touch before we show up in Geneva next year (other than a public message board). If I accept, I will try to set up a yahoo group through which we could communicate.

Hi Fulvia! Hi everyone else!
I already gave up on the Academy (and as a result did not visit this site again) because they offered me no scholarship adn I could not finance it on my own, but now there is a glimmer of hope that I might get some financial assistance that might enable me to attend the program this year. However, stupidly, I did not pursue the housing options in the spring as without the scholarship it would have been in vain. And now I am scared that it's too late to find anything decent in teh residences. In any event, I would prefer to rent an apartment and share it with other students. Fulvia and anybody else already in Geneva, which neighbourhouds are OK? Have you seen any advertisements for apartments? Please pass on any leads. by the way, does anyone know the exact date the program starts and ends (it would be good to know for exact apartment searches)? Also does anyone know if the rent agreements in Geneva are for at least one year? I am Canadian, but I am studying in Austria right now and in AUstria it's virtually impossible to rent anything for less than a year. Anyway, hopfully together we will be able to find suitable housing options.

Hi! I will in Geneva from the last week of August to commence my Phd studies at the IHEID. I tried very hard to find housing but it seems really difficult. I contacted several people who posted their ad in the UniGe's website, but fruitless up to now. I am really wondering if there are students who will rent or already renting an apartment and would like to lease a room. I would be very happy if I can co-share with anybody.
Thanks
