Hey there!

So... After a long journey I am almost graduating in my home country (Portugal) and already applied for several Universities/LLMs in The Netherlands.

The LLM of my choice is International / European Law (with specialization in EU Law) and I applied to:

uVa (Ams) - I was already accepted
Tilburg
Utrecht (my first option, but they take sooo long to give you an answer ai ai ai...)
Leiden

I am (hopefully) starting in September (2008).

Is anyone also applying for this LLM in any of these Universities?

Hope to hear from you guys!

hi, Mehmet, you can check the rank on Tilburg website to see its ranking. As far as I know, it ranked 1st in Europe according to the Social Science Research Network and this might be the latest one. Have you received the letter of intent and a letter about the visa? I haven't received the former but the later. Did they asked you to transfer the money within to weeks?

I'll let you know once I got the answer hehe!
I already am in touch with other people who are going to Tilburg next year. :)

Hi,
I also applied to Rotterdam, but now that I'm taken in Tilburg, I decided to forget it, even if I'm taken there. What made you choose Utrecht out of all the others? For me, it was the Law of Sea department they have there, and also the fact that they're the only ones to offer an elective in that subject. (I'm a Law of the Sea nut...)
I'm French, currently studying Political Science in Strasbourg.

I was also accepted in Tilburg as I said above, but Utrecht's reputation is way better than Tilburg or so. Leiden and Utrecht are considered top universities around Europe that's why I prefer to accept the place in Utrecht.
Anyway, as far as I can see a lot of people here are applying and taking the place that was offered to them in Tilburg.
Utrecht also offers an internship during the LLM (on the elective course u can choose it) and the other subjects are also pretty interesting too! :)

So you are gonna accept Tilburg, right?
I received their letter through the post today by the way hehe!

Good luck!
I'm Portuguese, I live in Lisbon and I study here too :)

I'm wondering how many people have received an answer from Utrecht, and how many are still waiting.
Their information says the answers comes in 12 weeks, does it really take that long? I'm really anxious to hear from them, as they're my first choice.
Also, quite unrelated: I'm doing an internship in Amsterdam this summer, from June 1st to August 31st, and it looks like housing is a nightmare. Does anyone have tips on how to find a room in a shared apartment that wouldn't make me completely broke?

The best way to find a room in The Netherlands is through the website www.kamernet.nl
I already know I was accepted in Utrecht but it wasn't an official acceptance letter, so we have to wait I guess.

where are you from by the way ( I guess I didn't ask before)?

Hi everyone, iīve also been admitted to the IBL at Tilburg. Still wondering though, am waiting for the replies from UvA, EMLE and Utrecht. But Tilburg is already great.

juliettelucie, you write that youīre currently studying political science. What do you plan to do with the llm afterwards? I am asking because my first masters was also in PA, I studied at the University of Bonn, Germany, with minors economics and european law. On the one hand i really want to do the LLM, on the other though, I sometimes have my doubts whether this would actually be that wise, since I wonīt be a lawyer...

After the LLM, I hope to work for NGOs in legal counsel and international relations. I'd love to be a lawyer, but I don't have enough knowledge of any national law to try out for a bar exam, and honestly, I'm kind of tired of studying, so after this, I want to start working instead of starting over.
If any former LLM students are around, can you tell us what kind of jobs you got?

I applied both to the EU Law and to the International Business Law programme. I should say I was really quite confused with their answer, as I had first sent them an inquiry about whether my background in law was sufficient. They said they needed 6 credits preferably in International and European Law, which was exactly one of my minors at Bonn. So I have quite more than 6 credits, and an honours. By the way, I got the impression that something was very wrong with the selection and organization at Utrecht, as they kept sending me all kinds of questions and were sometimes not familiar with their own application requirements. Oh, and the application form was also quite strange....

Hey there!
Everybody asks for the same kind of thing... Anyway I think you should choose the one that suits u the most (per example, compare the courses and all of that)...
I am gonna choose Utrecht over Tilburg, mostly because of what I heard about the reputation of their law school and master degrees, but also because they have very interesting courses and because they offer me the chance to do an internship!
So yes, this is why I prefer Utrecht. It also seems to have more practical courses, than theory itself, and that's def, what I think I need.
I delivered my application in hand (on the 14th of March) and although I know I was accepted I didn't receive any official letter of acceptance yet. They say it can take up to 12 weeks, so we'll see! I won't deny the offer to Tilburg until I receive the letter of acceptance from Utrecht, that's for sure!

Good luck :)

Hey all,
I am Angela, from Colombia (south america) and it's great to read that many of us around the world are in the same situation...

I have also been admitted to IBL Master at Tilburg, and I also got the Tilburg Scholarship :D
However, as many of you, I am also waiting for Utrecht to reply, which was my first option... I applied for the Master in Law & Economics (I have formal undergraduate studies both in law and in economics) Has anyone applied to the L&E Master there?
Could anyone give me advise on what to do if I am admitted to Utrecht also?

I thank you all in advance and hope to keep in touch

Regards!

Hello Angela, I got accepted to Tilburg as well (not in Law but in another master) and I was wondering how did you get the scholarship acceptance? I got nominated for HSP Huygens scholarship, but I didn't get. And I was wondering if you know how they make their choices about the Tilburg Scholarship?

Hello everyone. I begun to study my llm eu law in Amsterdam in Feb. 2008. So I will continue with you till Feb. 2009.

If U have any questions just ask. But I have to say that I am very satisfied with UvA programme. We have a lot of elective courses. I have friends studying in other univ.(leiden) and their programme is almost totally compulsory. Even thoug in was also in doubts sometimes now I know that UvA is a very good choice! And its good to live in Adam, moreover the accommodation is much cheaper than in smaller university towns.
