Work load Columbia
Hi all,Sun Apr 06, 2008 06:08 PM I have been admitted to Columbia and I was wondering if anyone could update on the work load of the LLM. Indeed, Columbia is a great university, but I would appreciate enjoying my year in NYC too. Any feedback would be highly appreciated, especially compared to other universities (Chicago, NYU, Harvard etc). Thanka a lot |

Dear kamo,Sun Apr 06, 2008 09:10 PM I heard that Columbia's workload is really hard core. I have a friend who went there and stayed on campus most of the time. I mean, it's a great university but you'll probably have to work like a animal. If I had the choice (which you probably do), I would go to Chicago. I hope this helps Hmmm |

I'm currently at Columbia now and the workload is perfectly ok. Sure, to get an A in every class, you would need to work extremely hard, but that would be true of any of the top 10 or 15 LLM programs in the U.S.Wed Apr 09, 2008 04:29 AM I have done well, worked hard, attended all class, and had an absolute blast with my LLM classmates enjoying the sights of NYC. You can work as much or as little as you want, but I can promise you, if you are happy with B+/A- grades, that if you put in 8 hours or 9 hours a day during the week days, you will have you evenings and weekends to yourself. It is not that crazy here! Let me know if you have any more questions |

weird,,I had never heard Chicago's workload is smaller than CLS but quite the contrary. Could anybody please give some insight about the professor-student interaction in CLS? I know the average class size of CLS is much bigger than that of UoC. IBesides at UoC it is possible for students to choose to do independent research with a professor. How about CLS?

I don't know about UChicago, but @Columbia the workload is huge, compared to my friends who were @NYU it was almost the double (they indeed had many chances to party during the week while I was busy studying at the library).Mon Apr 14, 2008 03:52 PM The interaction professor-student is very good even in big classes. For the record the big classes size issue belongs more to NYU or Harvard than Columbia. [Edited 14 Apr 2008 by Timbaland] |
