Hi everybody

I have unconditional offers to study international commercial (business) law at the universities of Durham, Manchester, and Nottingham. Now I received an offer from KCL so I need some advice about which one to choose.

Any comments would be appreciated

KCL is better than any of the other colleges that you have mentioned. But if you dont wanna go to London then Durham is really good for Intl. Commercial Law and after Durham you can consider Manchester or Nottingham.

regarding the offer you received from Durham - I received an e-mail from the Postgraduate Administration who informed me that they are recommending that an offer of admission be made to me and they also outlined that the University should confirm this offer - do you think that the University could reject it? Thank you!

Thank
I’m really confused; in the times ranking, the Sunday times ranking Durham has a better ranking than KCL but in this discussion board I have the impression that people prefer king’s, so I need your advices

KCL any time. It is a class above the other three in the LLM program, also better lecturers.

guys,
before choosing any universities, you should look at what you want to study and whether those universities offer those particular modules.
durham for istance has a very limited choice in that respect. KCL has a very good reputation, but be sure about the reputation of those who're actually teaching the modules you're interested in.
if i had to choose, i'd definitely go for either manchester or nottingham.

Durham has a limited choice compared to Manchester and Kings as it focus primarily in general but very good commercial modules.

Is there anyone who read for LLM at KCL to share his experience with us? I need some information about courses at KCL (I’m interested by the international commercial/business law), how much does it coast to live in London? Is it really more expensive than other cities in England?

i can only comment about the costs of living in london since i have lived there for a short while and still go there from time to time for conferences and things like that.
it sucks, everything is doubled, plus you waste lots of your time commuting.
i guess that becomes nice if you have a very good salary and can live in zone1/2, but i'd never advise london for its student life

It depend, if u wish to go overseas to work, KCL is the best because of it international reputation. However, if u just want to work in the UK then Durham is the best because it ranking and research is much better than the other 3 u mention.

KCL is overrated and especially considering the living expenses. Before you reach a conclusion, you have to decide which area you want to specialise in. Then, you will look for the best education in this area.

I do agree KCL is overrated in UK and overseas but despite that, the overseas legal industry still recognise it as one of the best in UK although it is no true anymore. I have opinion from lawyers in US, Australia, Singapore and HK which all seem to know oxbridge and the London universities but those are restricted to local employer who never study in overseas before so maybe bigger law firm will have a better picture of the true ranking ( which I doubt so actually). Durham like I suggested is always strong in legal department and research quality and general legal ranking as compare to KCL and Manchester and on par with nottingham. Living expenses also affordable similar to other 2 and lower than london ( Information gather from friend studying from all 4 places).

KCL overrated...thats like saying Cristiano Ronaldo doesnt have a left foot....KCL Faculty is world class. 2 examples which will make you orgasm:

a) Professor Richard Whish--international expert in Competition Law.

b) The legend: Professor Roger Brownsword--international expert in Contract Law--some of you might have even used his textbooks for contract law- Understanding Contract Law,etc.

In any case, there is no significant difference between KCL, UCL, etc....there is no better/worse...its what you do with your degree that counts.

With respect to the rankings---its like a bikini..its SHOWS A LOT BUT NOT THE WHOLE THING.
