Loans/Funding for LLM
How is everyone funding their LLM? I am not really a candidate for any scholarships right now, but is there a way I can take out a government loan for this? Thanks for any advice...

If you come to study in Scotland check out the SAAS Thu Apr 28, 2005 04:30 PM www.student-support-saas.gov.uk/ That will give you information from this side of the border. Not sure about the rest of the UK though, I think it's this site: www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk. Should help you to get started. |

Depends on where you are from. I am from the US and have been approved for an unsubsidized US Federal Stafford Loan (max. $18,500 US), which covers most UK LLM Programs. Also, you could apply for a private loan from a bank, which will be at a slightly higer interest rate. Let me knwo if you have any more questions.

Oh, so if I took out FAFSA for lawschool, can I do it again for my LLM? But I am sure I will need more than the $18,500 for the one year, so I guess this means I need a private loan, right? Thanks everyone for the info so far.

That's right. You'll have to fill out the FAFSA, which can now be done online. You will then get your Student Aid Report (SAR) and that will have to be submitted by you to the LLM Program of your choice. They will make the determination as to how much you can receive and whether it will be subsidized and/or unsubsidized. If you need more money, you will have to apply for a supplemental or private loan from a private lender (Sallie Mae, Bank of America, etc). Again, let me know if you need more info.
