I need your advice!
Guys, I really need help. Which Uni to choose - Aberdeen or Leeds? As far as I understand they both are not of the "priority", meaning that you all here write about Manchester and Warwick... Can you just tell me the reasons? I referred to the Good University Guide and never wanted Cambridge or Oxford. These are just good universities, right? I'm confused and desperately need your advice. Thanks!

Aberdeen is very well respected at the moment (although u do feel you're studying at the ends of the earth).Tue Apr 15, 2008 09:12 AM Leeds is a solid red-brick, Russell Group university, which has a good reputation. I wouldn't say Manchester is any better or worse than Leeds or Aberdeen, and as for Warwick, it has a developed an international reputation which means international students are more interested in it (and definitely is the place to go for international economic law). Personally, I'd choose Leeds as it will be generally more well-known, but ultimately it depends on what you plan to specialise in. Don't take too much notice of the university rankings for red-brick and Russell Group universities (excluding Oxbridge and London) - they all change around too much. Hey!Sat Apr 19, 2008 03:13 PM First I disagree with the two previous posts. Aberdeen has a very strong reputation! It was ranked 2nd in various rankings. This university is probably the best for international business law and especially for oil and gas and private international law. Therefore, all depend on the field of law you wanna specialize. |

It depend on which ranking u use, guardian or times. However, it is true that Aberdeen is good in lot of subjects so is Leeds. So u need to check is the law of Aberdeen stronger than Leeds or not. I speaking earlier from a general view point of their reputation.

So far I remember, both in Guardian and Times ranking for last two years, Aberdeen is ranked higher than Leeds.

As regards Law, Aberdeen is ranked at 2nd, which is same as UCL, according to Times.Sat Apr 19, 2008 05:31 PM The ranking you suggest is probably overall one, not Law. |

Yap, but look at the fact I am replying to the previous post of me which said about the fact Leeds and Aberdeen have both their strong ranking and I am agreeing with him. So I believe I am answering to the point and beside, overall reputation do matter beside the law department ranking. So again, please read the question of the one before me before replying so hastily

According to times online aberdeen LAW SCHOOL not the whole departments but the law school is ranked 2nd in the UK. see extras.timesonline.co.uk/gug/gooduniversityguide.p…Sun Apr 20, 2008 12:14 PM Leeds is ranked eleven. According to the good university guide, aberdeen is still ranked 2nd and Leeds 15th. www.thegooduniversityguide.org.uk/single.htm?ipg=6… So, Aberdeen appears better in these two rankings. Nevertheless, that is just rankings and again, all depend on the area of law you wanna focus on! |

what are u going to study?Sun Apr 20, 2008 06:24 PM this as always is the key question. reputation means nothing if at the end of the day u're not satisfied with the level of lecturing. be aware that last summer prof mccormack moved from manchester to leeds, and i don't need to say that he's a terrific professor if u're interested in the area of commercial and financial law. i'd go for leeds, but again look at who teaches what. |

cowboybluesMon May 19, 2008 07:15 AM actually the opportunity to live far away from civilization was one of the reasons I did not like Aberdeen. that's why I totally agree! jackoune Well I know that Aberdeen is very strong in oil and gas, although my priority is international trade law, that's why I don't think this brilliant opportunity of Aberdeen is essential for me. Vincenzo and all, I'm gonna study International Trade law. What shall be my choice then? |

in mancs the core subjects of trade law are taught by prof terry prime and andrew bell.Mon May 19, 2008 09:02 AM am not aware of who's actually teaching those topics in leeds, so can't really draw a comparison. |
