Corporate Law: NYU vs. Chicago
Dear all,Wed Apr 16, 2008 04:02 AM Help me out here! I've got admissions on both, and I just can not decide between them. I've already read a lot of threads, and I could find out that Columbia would be the best option for corporations because of Cofee and the entire strong faculty. However, I've got no response back from CLS yet. Thus, I need some arguments in regard of NYU vs. CHICAGO. Which one is in the second position for corporate law and closer to CLS? To be honest with you, I had made the choice to go to NYU, but when I read the NYU vs. CLS thread, I felt a little unsecured. Is it that bad taking the Corporation LL.M. from NYU? I know NYU is the best for International Law and Tax, but its corporation LL.M. is at least among the best (top 5) in US? Is William Allen a good professor or not at all??? Please help me with this. Thank you very much!!! |

I'm advising you to take Chicago. Law and Economic with Posner and the rest. Take Chicago and do it soon or you might lose the offer.

Thank you, folks!Wed Apr 16, 2008 06:20 PM Please, could someone shed some more light on this thread! I do know that Eric Posner is awesome and Chicago is the best for Law & Economics! But, are the programs for someone who is going to focus on corporate law about the same level? Or, Chicago is a way better on this field? I am not sure, but I feel some people are underestimating NYU's Corporate Law LL.M.? Is my impression right or not? I need more help!!! Thank you !!! |

If you are really asking the question then go for NYU, pay your fee and get your degree... If you want to be a wannabe go to NYU, however, if you are prepared for tough studying come to Chicago... NYU will definitely be easier and, maybe, more fun but Chicago is the real thing...

Although the corporate Law of NYU is very good, I think you will have no chance to exchange any idea with the professor together with 400+ LLM student. If you want to do some academic research thing, NYU is not wise choice. As somebody mentioned above, the credential is good but......

That's ture. They do have "major". However, LLMs are free to choose any course in law school. Please notice the fact that the better the professor is, the more students will choose that course regardless the major. They do have 400+LLM! I just want to take the resouce distribution into consideration, which is very important for smebody who want to have a interactive way of learning on corporate course.:)

UPenn has a very good corporate law prestige because of its outstanding corporate law faculty and cooperation with whartorn, which is a famous for its MBA, corporate governance and corporate financing. Some of the Professors not only teach corporate law in law school but also have second appointment in wharton. Anyway, I think nodulbtably corporate law in UPenn is prestigious.
