Just wondering if anyone who received acceptance into Cambridge has gotten word as to what college they were accepted into, or if anyone has any idea when we will hear. Do you have to accept first? Do you have to meet your conditions first? The answer given on their website is vague-- very vague. Thx.

I've heard nothing yet, I assume we should hear about it soon though, I thought that the colleges would be looking at applications now, during the gap in between faculty decisions and acceptance... Of course I may well be wrong.

I'm hoping to hear soon b/c I hear that college selection makes a BIG difference-- not so much in terms of education, but social life, etc. Of course, I still have to meet my academic conditions, though! With that in mind, back to studying...

I put Trinity College, it's the biggest so thought it would provide a good variety of social groups etc. All of the teaching is done departmentally so that's the only bit that matters I suppose, plus it'll provide a chance to attempt the great court run...

HI all!
I went to my Camsis today and it has written 'Hughes Hall' in College Membership. I guess the decision making process would be faster for those, like me, who left preferences in blank.
See u

I'm still an 'applicant' even though my email offer came through 7 weeks ago... Hopefully it'll be updated soon!

I left my college preference blank as well, but no such luck-- I'm still listed as an applicant and have yet to receive my formal offer letter!

Hi - I just checked and my Camsis has been updated overnight and I've been offered a place at my preference - Jesus College. I also finally got my actual hard copy pack in the mail yesterday!

Hi sydneycat. Also from Sydney (Australia) and also got into Jesus College! Having read your other post on Cambridge vs Oxford, barring absolutely nothing from Cambridge and a huge scholarship from Oxford, I will definitely be going to Cambridge. Hope to see you there!

Hey guys, I'm also from Sydney, Camsis update has just shown that I got into Robinson - which was my preference based on the staff I saw there. Bit envious of the old architecture I'm going to be missing out on. Still trying to resolve my unachievable academic conditions :(

My Camsis still hasn't been updated, but I was told that my application went to Churchill College about two weeks ago, so I should find out shortly. I still haven't received my formal offer letter, though (although I can pull it up on Camsis). For those of you whose Camsis shows their college, how long ago did you receive your email acceptance? I got my acceptance email on 3/27, which was later than most, if I remember correctly...

On a side note, has anyone looked into housing yet?

Are you aware that in contrast to undergraduate degrees at Cambridge, the LLM is taught at faculty level, not college, and thus the members of staff in any given college are largely irrelevant?

Yeah, I wasn't sure really how relevant college staff would be. I knew that it was taught at a faculty level, but I still had the impression that there might be some support from your college - it is difficult for me to comprehend what sort of community a college is.

Same really, I wasn't sure which college to go for so I went with my tutor's advice of Trinity College as it's the biggest; using the rough theory that the biggest college probably has the most diverse community/like minded people there, lol.

jrmorton - I got my offer around 7 or so of March so yes, a bit earlier, but regardless I was under the impression the faculty didn't even send our applications out to the college until after the tentative 15 April date they gave us to respond with definite 'nos'. I think the colleges will probably all respond in the next week or so depending on how many applications they received.

Yes, I'm hoping to get my selection shortly as I need to complete my federal financial aid forms (FAFSA) and they ask for the college membership. Plus, it'd be nice to just have the peace of mind that I was accepted by a college and get that condition out of the way...

Regarding the importance of college membership, I was told by an alum that college selection is VERY important, but more for social reasons rather than academic. The alum told me that, basically, the people in your college are going to be the one's whom you spend the vast majority of your time with, so it is everything in terms of social life. Plus, the facilities are important b/c we will probably be spending a LOT of our time there. He didn't mention whether college membership is important for academic reasons, but it was my impression that it was not.

I can give you an idea, but I'm not 100% certain. Of the three schools I applied to (LSE and UCL being the two others) Cambridge was the only one that did NOT ask for a resume or comprehensive essay. They did, however, ask for two recommendation letters. And, when I was admitted, I was given academic conditions that by any standard are considered tough. My logical conclusion based on what they asked for, what they didn't ask for or care to look at, and my academic conditions, I believe that academics are the primary consideration. Just make sure you have very, very good grades. I think everything besides grades are just to weed out the maybe's to yesses and nos. Grades, grades, grades...

I guess they are making an offer. The CAMSIS showed my college membership ' Queens' College' a few days ago but I haven't heard anything via email. Anyone applied to Queens'?

Which link in Camsis is showing these college selections? I'm assuming its the "Your Application Status" link because that has a space for "College Membership"???

to know If you've been admitted to a college, you have to go to the same page where it says "applicant accepted offer". Next to that, it shows the college membership which, as usual, would be conditional until you become an "admitted applicant". If it doesn't appear, then you'll have to wait a bit longer. However, it is more likely that the college would inform you via email.
