Equity - I am Canadian and I've not heard from any College yet. I did receive my formal offer by post a few weeks ago (letter was dated April 28)...If I were you I would email the admin assistant as I would have thought you'd have received your letter by now.

I applied for a deferral (to begin in 2009) in early April and am getting somewhat impatient as they consider this request - any insights into this process?

Thanks in advance.

if you're worried, just call Ms Wade. She's such a nice person on the phone and will surely help you.

spoke too soon - found out today I am in Sidney Sussex. still no word about deferral.

I hear there is a group for those attending in 2008/2009 - anybody know how to access it?

Thanks.

Still no word on college selection, but did email Ms. Wade b/c I still haven't received my formal offer letter, although the one that is on Camsis is dated 4/25...

The group is on Facebook-- just search "Cambridge LLM" and it'll come right up.

Hi!
I am Mateja Djurovic from Serbia and I am accepted as well to the LLM programme for the upcoming school year.
I have not still obtained a coolege place, so I am interested whether anyone knows until when I should get the information on that?
I am now a bit worried about that...

I haven't been accepted to a college yet either. But, I spoke w/ Ms. Wade last week and she assured me that there is nothing to worry about. There are 31 colleges and apparently admission into a college is guaranteed, but you just may not get one you chose. I specifically asked her if there are ever circumstances where a student gets admitted into the University but does not get a college placement and she told me "no"... The only concern I have is that, like others posting on this board, I have yet to receive my formal offer letter and w/out a college placement I'm not quite sure where to look for housing!

jrmorton..... do not worrry..... as a current llm student, let me give you a rundown of things.

first, don't worry about anything. if you have been accepted buy the BoGS, that's all you need. In effect, you are onto the LLM.

Second, the reason why Cam is so slow in everything ie sending of letters etc.... is because the law fac is understaffed... so dont be alarmed in the slowness

third, you will get into a college.... do not worry. it may not be your first choice but you will get in. Once in, it is the College that sorts out all the accomodation procedure. So there is no need to worry about that either.

Just be patience, everything will unfold, soon..... dont forget its exam season, so every1 is busy with all that as well

wish you all the best for next year, it will be interesting to say the least

what about 'meeting the conditions'? are they flexible? i.e. if they've imposed a final average of 9.4 and you get 9.35... what do you think would happen? :) thanks

sorry, i was under the impression you have a unconditional offer

anyways, if you get 9.35 instead of 9.4.... i would be very surprised if they refused... even if you got 9.3.....BUT get that 9.4 and you wont ever need to find out

good luck

Just curious if anyone knows with 100% certainty when the LLM program ends. I've heard conflicting things from May to October. I know the program starts October 1st, but when does it end, and when is graduation? Thanks!

You'll finish up end of May/early June. Your graduation is likely to be end of June/early July. They usually post graduation dates on the university website a long time in advance (i.e. you'll be able to find out now for next year, at least within a few days - you'll graduate with your college, not with members of your program).

Canadian1, is it true that the courses wind up about a month before the exams are heald? I hear that students get approx one month to study after the end of classes before exams and that the thesis too is due one month before exams.
Also, any insight on good courses to take/courses to avoid??

thanks

I did my law undergraduate at Cambridge and many of my friends have stayed on to do LLMs or MPhils. DO NOT underestimate the impact of the College you select. DO NOT leave it blank. You could end up in a girls only college, one 7 miles out of town or a hideous modern college.

Look carefully at each place taking into account its academic staff, its location and how much cash it has to splash around. Also Cambridge is an experience in itself and I cannot overstate the value of being able to live in a 16th C castle.

Have fun,

Holly

Your courses will end before the Easter vacation for the most part (i.e. sometime in March), so you'll have that time, plus the last part of April and first part of May to revise. Dissertations are generally due in early May, which is (approximately) 3 weeks before exams normally begin.

As for good/bad courses, it all depends what you are interested in and they change from year to year, so tough to say.

the selection process seems to be ongoing still, just saw on Camsis yesterday that I'm in St. Edmund's College. The website says they take in a number of LL.M students.

now I still have to meet my - tough - conditions...

Thx for your reply. I'm just a bit worried that academic performance alone is not enough. Has anyone gotten an offer purely with good academic performance?

I can tell you that I was made an offer, and that I lack any redeemable characteristic other than somewhat decent grades.

Which I stole, of course, from helpless orphans.
