Congratulations botolo86 & pedrinus,Tue May 20, 2008 08:42 AM I'm a '08 LLM student/alumni and I can say that Hastings is a good school with some outstanding professors (Diamond, Wegstaffe, Dodge, Levine). The LLM program assistant is also very nice and helpful. But, watch your backs! Hastings is pretty though in grading and the LLM program director is a tactless jerk (regarding to 14 students out of 20, me included). Good luck! |

Pedrinus,Sat Jun 07, 2008 11:45 PM I am a recent graduate of the LLM program at UC Hastings (Class of 2008) and I hope I can answer some of your inquiries. You are correct that 20 students are admitted to the LLM program each year. You will take one Legal Research and Writing (LWR) class with the other LLM students. However, the rest of the courses you take will be with the regular JD students. And, as outlawCA hinted above, classes are very good, very tough, and some of the professors are experts in their field. I also want to mention that I am preparing to take the CA State Bar Exam, and the classes I had at UC Hastings thouroughly covered the material tested on the Bar Exam. A note about the program director. I had no problems with Professor Paul. He was always nice to me. He also did a lot of "behind the scenes" work on our behalf where he worked with the administrators and the California Bar Association. Including, but not limited to: getting LLM students admitted to certain classes, making it easy for LLM students to be admitted to the JD program, and helping us design our programs. I am really appreciative of all the work that he has done for us. Anyway, good luck with your studies and have a good LLM year in the United States (if you choose to go that route). |
