According to the most recent rankings by the Independent, Nottingham has been placed in the 4th place above UCL. I do not even remember KCL's place.

I was also happy to see Aberdeen in the 2nd place in another ranking. You might, prima facie, ignore all the discussions and immediately reach a conclusion that just because UCL or KCL is placed in such places, or there is no consistency between the mentioned rankings, I really do not think they indicate justified results.

Well, obviously that would be choosing the easiest and the least smart thing to do. I think that this, somehow, points out that actually we are after the images of these institutions. In other words, it is the 'reputation' of the institution that we are choosing. So we need to explicate this point a bit.

Apparently, if Aberdeen or Nottingham are placed in such high places, then there must be something about them. Most probably the quality of specific programmes or the academic staff.

In this respect, the students (especially those who are planning to pursue their career in academia) should really be attentive in researching the potential institutions tha they would like to study by considering the areas that they would like to specialise in the future.

A concrete example from Aberdeen; they have a unique programme on oil and gas law. For someone pursuing a career in this area, it would be totally pointless to go to Cambridge.

Another one is from Nottingham. If you are interested in Administrative law; specifically Public Procurement law (Government Contracts) the School has the best research group on this subject under the direction of the best expert on this area, namely, Sue Arrowsmith.

Aberdeen and Nottingham have both a strong reputation in law. Cambridge and Oxford have a reputation in any field. That is the difference. But if you want to pursue a degree in Laws, it is better to choose Aberdeen or Nottingham than City e.g.
