Hi there!Tue Apr 29, 2008 11:13 AM I was missing some information about LLM programmes at Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University. I am taking part in a programme there at the moment (Europe) and I can strongly recommend the Law School! The lecturers are very nice and helpful (and of course extremly well educated); the School has excellent learning facilities; there are a lot of international students most of them this year from France, Belgium, Greece, Cyprus, Austria, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, China, which is good for international networking; the Uni also offers excellent LPC and BVC courses, so there is substantial contact with future English solicitors/barristers. Overall a really good experience! Although it doesn't seem to be the case within England, in Germany the law school has a very high reputation and is considered among the 15 best law schools within the UK. Thanks for the information, TiGGer!Sat May 31, 2008 04:02 PM A friend of mine, who works in one of the magic circle law firms now, has done his LLM there, too (I think Europe, as well, not sure though). He said he had a brillant time there and recommended the law school to me, too. However, you may not be quite right with the ranking. It's true that Nottingham Trent is merely in the midfield of UK's law schools as regards undergraduate studies, however, I think it is not exaggerated to say that NLS is one of the best (or maybe the best) provider of postgraduate education (LLM, GDL, LPC, BVC). Apart from that it is to my opinion much more important to be outstanding than being an average student of OxBridge. At the end of the day it is performance that counts! And yes, I heard about the movement of students from University of Nottingham to Nottingham Law School for the LLM, too. I also consider doing this ;-) |

Richie_85, I totally agree to your comment as regards the performance. In Germany, where I come from, nobody gives a s*** about the University. Being granted University status within the EU means that there is a sufficient standard anyway. The decisive point is which mark you get in your studies. In Germany you should definetely have a mark around 70%/good upper second class...better first class/distinction/magna cum laude or above/Prädikatsexamen (...however you may call it). Otherwise you are just anyone among the many many thousand other law graduates - and your University doesn't help you then at all. Sad, but true!

Oh, I can tell you that is not very different in the UK. You should have at least a 2.1 to have decent chances to get invited for an interview. A first is of course better. With a first you can more or less choose. Anyway, you have serious problems with a 2.2 or less.
