I am currently deciding on whether to attend Leiden or Edinburgh for a LLM in european business law. I am a US student. All I know about the two schools is that which i can gather from their websites. I have never been to Europe before. Factors weighing on my decision: city life, people at school, professors, coursework, etc. If someone could give me some information regarding these and other considerations, I would be much obliged.

For quality of life, I would recommand Edinburgh, but that's just me. Scotland is quieter than the NL, and while NL has beautiful towns, Scotland has both beautiful towns and a great countryside.
For the programs themselves, both schools are well rated, but Edinburgh slightly more so. I don't think you should let that be the key to your choice. Compare the optionnal courses and see what you like more. I know Leiden doesn't offer much flexibility, not sure about Edinburgh.

All I can tell you is that Leiden is recognized as one of the best law schools around Europe. It has a very good reputation both in bachelors and master degrees...
Plus Holland is really beautiful, is right in the center of Europe (so if you wanna travel you can always take some low cost flight or a train to another country), and although Leiden is a bit more calm than cities like Amsterdam or Utrecht, u can always party or find a nice place to relax, as in it can really offer a party or a calm environment for ur studies!

I chose Holland, afterall :D hehe!

Not sure if you have made your decision yet but I also am a US student and chose Edinburgh for both the LLM and my PhD when I returned 4 years later. For quality of life and ease you cannot beat Edinburgh. The faculty is extremely helpful and the city is extremely user friendly! There are very few Americans in the LLM programme (generally around 5 at most out of around 140) so you still get an extremely continental experience without any language barrier issues. NL is beautiful to visit but if you've never lived abroad, you may want to start somewhere where they speak close to the same language! (Scots is a bit tricky at times!).
Best of luck!!!
