LLM in Manchester or Southampton?

Hi,everyone.

I got two unconditional offers, one is from University of Manchester (LLM International Business Law),the other is from University of Southampton(Commercial &Corporate Law). I got the Bachelor of Law Degree and Master's Degree of Economics Degree(Major in Finance) . I am a lawyer .

By now I have not made up my mind which to choose.

The tuition fee of Manchester is higher than that of Southampton.
Though the ranking of Manchester is high than Southampton according to TIMES 2008 in Law field, but in general ranking Southampton is high than Manchester.

I guess the weather in Southampton maybe better and warmer than that in Manchester though I have not been to UK before.

SInce Southampton is closer to London ,maybe I could travel to London more easily for tourism or job opportunities.

I will be very appreciated for your comments.

hi, i would like to say that i have also experienced that dilmma, however i ve preferred manchester. in terms of overall reputation manchester has a good place compared to southampton. Besides, i've heard that maritime law in southampton is famous but in commercial law or financial law
i think manchester would be a better choise. Good luck

For my opinion, corporate governance is not only important for financial institutions but also for all companies. So corporate governance looks more related to company law field .From my personal working experience in credit risk control area,I admitted that establishing a proper corporate governance structure is very important for financial institution to lower their risks.

weather might definitely be better in southempton, but manchester is definitly a much better place to live, especially as an llm student.
i don't know much about the law faculty in southempton, but in the above areas manchester is quite competitive for the options offered and also for people who teach those modules.
i'm doing a phd in the area and there's a pretty good range of supervision.

Dear Vincenzo ,
Thanks for your comments. I think living cost in Manchester may be lower than that in Southampton and Edinburgh.
Actually , I also received LLM offer from University of Edinburgh (Commercial Law). I heard that there is difference of legal system between England and Scotland,is that true? I prefer to learn more common law .

indeed the scottish legal system is different and is something between common law and civil law.
i also wanted to study in scotland, but for international students the only suitable programmes are probably the EU ones.
