LLM or JD?
I have LLB degree and want to pursue a law degree in USA. My options:Fri May 09, 2008 02:32 AM I am interested in Intellectual Property/Dispute Resolution or International&Comparative law 1] Univ of Florida - J.D. ($25K total as my husband is florida resident) 2] NYU/George Washington - LLM ($50k out of state tuition+living expenses) Which would prove to be more beneficial? Is it worth to invest 3 years for JD or does it make sense to invest more money and get LLM in 1 year. Which option would be better from job prospective? Please advise, appreciate the help |

Many schools will let you finish your JD in 2 years. Mayabe even UF? I would ask them to see if they'll grant you one year for your LLB. But 25k is not bad, I guess it is just a time issue. 3 years is a long time. Sat May 10, 2008 07:23 AM As for the LLM, I am very ambivalent about just having an LLM if you want to stay in the US for years and work. But search this board and you'll see numerous discussions on this topic. You should talk to NYU/GW alumni, and see what they say. Esp with people from your country and in your situation. I'm sure there will be plenty since at least NYU has a huge LLM program. Will you be able to get a residence card too? That would help with getting a job later. |
