OX Mjur vs. Cambridge LLM
I am facing the choice between the two. Would anyone share some insight about the two programs? Does Cam have a tutorial system for the students?Wed May 21, 2008 08:04 AM I would like to pursue an academic career afterward in public law. Thank you! |

Being an aspiring public law academic I chose the BCL over the Cam LLM (I'm British). If I were you, I'd take the Mjur. Wed May 21, 2008 02:09 PM Good luck in your choice. |

Most people I've spoken to don't regard the Mjur at Oxford as prestigious as the BCL, so I'd take the Cambridge LLM

Dear Penny,Thu May 22, 2008 08:58 AM If you don't have any specific preference as to the staff (i.e. you don't want to study/work with any one of them specifically), and if there aren't any specific courses which would tilt it one way or the other, then you are indeed in a rather 'nice' situation. I'd suggest looking at it this way: if there isn't anything that would make an academic difference for you, then what you are essentially comparing are two of the finest law schools, period. Both provide you with tremendous possibilities after your masters degree, but at the same time much of that also depends on how you do in that masters degree - i.e. if you are thinking on the lines of "which has the competitative edge" then you must remember that much of that competativeness comes down to how the student has done, etc. So what my advice would be is to make your decision on the very sketchy criterion of personal intuition - and then own that decision. Look at the other aspects of the universities, see which one strikes your fancy outside the Masters courses, where would you feel more comfortable, which one provides you with opportunities to do some charity work/mooting/debating/sports/clinical work/drama etc. whatever it is that you are interested in, and then go with that. And while this advice might sound unhelpful at first, I am certain that a masters students comfort during that year corresponds directly to academic success.
