LLM in Scottish Universities
I have a concern with regards to studying in Scottish universities. Sat May 24, 2008 05:36 PM I got an offer to read the LLM International Commercial Law in Aberdeen and my concern is to the governing law that the subject is based on, i.e whether it would mostly based on the foundation of Scottish law. Or should this not be an issue at all since it's "International Commercial Law" and hence it is irrelevant whether one studies it in the English uni or Scottish uni? I hope someone out there could help me to clarify this point. Thanks so much. |

Dear Freak Out,Sun May 25, 2008 09:33 PM There is nothing to worry about. The academics teaching at the great Scottish Universities know English law, as well as Scots Law. And as you point out you will be studying "International Commercial Law" your subjects will be along way from the most distinct areas of Scottish private law, eg succession. In fact areas such as banking will probably involve a significant amount of "English" law, (the reality is that in most substantive areas of complex commercial law English and Scots law is bound by the same regulations in tax or banking or the case law is very highly persuasive) however, the academics at Scots Universities such as Aberdeen will be entirely fluent in that law.
