I am completely irresolute between Florida and BU (Miami offers a competitive program also but in my case, it's overshadowed by UF). I seriously need some help from you guys. I'm from NJ and plan to come back to the Northeast after my LLM. I want to get a job in a law firm or one of the Big4s. I'm interested in international tax. Which school, FL or BU, would carry more punch in the Northeast for a job in intl tax? Your comments will be very much appreciated! Florida will help you in the south and BU will help you in Boston but neither will carry a ton of weight outside of those areas. Of course if you went to a really good law school and did well there that will make a difference but I am guessing that that is probably not the case if you didnt get into NYU or Gtown. Overall Florida is much more well respected than BU so I would go there do well and hope the economy improves. But keep an open mind as to what wil be available. Based on what I have read from various sources, I think I should go to Florida. But, I have to admit that I personally prefer Boston much more than Gainesville. Now, PRACTICALLY, would there be any significant or meaningful difference in the job market being a BU graduate as opposed to being an FL graduate? I've asked several different people the same question and (as you can imagine) opinions differ. If you don't mind, could you explain how you reached your conclusion (based on personal / professional experience in the tax field, or being a tax llm student, etc)? Also, (if you have any idea) how well would I need to do at FL or BU to get a job at Big4? I have decent grades at a top 100 law school, and straight As in 4 tax courses. I really appreciate it.
