ciao Makiko, benvenuta tra noi!!

I choose Durham because it's a quite place too, but i don't know anyone who went there and neither anyone who just knows it as a town but still i think i'll like it.

My english is terrible too so i'll be there 1 month before for 1 month pre-sesssional english course.

Ciao

accommodation

Good evening from Japan.
Thank you all for responding to me.
I was glad to read all.

So when will you arrive? I received just one copy or the residence agreement, but I'm at palatine house, so maybe that's the difference. Actually I know how tiring the reading is, but I think we should know what we sign (even if we are lawyers).

Upon reading the Agreement, i didn't understand an Article, so i sent an e-mail to College in order to ask about it yesterday.
But i haven't received any response from them!!!
(Japanese is hasty race and lives in the country where trains and buses are expected to run on time, you know...)
I wonder if i must call them....

I will probably arrive in Durham around the 26th of September.
I have a plan to leave my country on the 21st and will travel somewhere (maybe Lake District) before reaching Durham.
While you study hard in the pre-sessional course, i will study hard at home so that i could keep up with you and other students.

Speak to you soon,

P.S. I was shocked by the serial bombings in London....

Hi, everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's so sad that we've got bad news about London. But I hope none of you will change your mind to go Durham. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you in the UK.
Don't worry, Makiko, my English is awful. I don't know how I got 7.0 (IELTS).
I've got my visa today (big step), so I'm waiting only for Accomodation agreement. Unfortunately, sometimes letters don't reach Kazakhstan at all.
Does anybody knows when they are going to send invoices for tuition?

Makiko maybe you shouldn't expect your answer too soon, but eventually they'll answer. I know exactly how nasty it is to wait, but that's life...

About the invoices I have no idea. Hope it won't be later than august.

Terrorism is horrible, but I won't change my mind.

Good morning, everyone.
It is raining in my town, i hate the bloody rainy season...

As i couldn't have responses from the Office, i called them yesterday.
And my question was resolved.
(Soon after my call, the Office responded to my e-mail...)
The person who i talked with seemed to be kind, but, my god, i couldn't understand what she said so much.

to Zhanna,
I won't change my mind, and will go to Durham as planned.

Bye for now,

After a very long time I wonder if Ole arrived in Durham. If yes, tell us about it... Same question to everyone else who should be there :-)
Does any of you know whether we'll receive more information or if we are just supposed to arrive in Durham and struggle our way through the university?

Ciao Makiko,

i've received the same info too, anyway thank you for your advice.

I'll arrive at durham on aug 29 for the pre-sessional english course starting on aug 31 (then i'll be back home between sept 27 and oct 1).

i have the oposite problem of u, here the weather is wonderful and i wouldn't like to leave it (cause it will be very bad in durham) but it will be a great experience for sure, and i can't wait to meet all this new friends from all over the world (as u).

Hi everybody, Ohiyo miko. I 'm really sorry for not contacting you for a long time but I hope that it ll not too late to answer all of your questions. I have stayed at durham for almost 2 months. everything here is quite nice except that it is such little and quiet city that I have nothing to do. In addition, studying pre-sessional here is not easy because I have to do a lot of hw everyday. I am under pressure and little worry about my english because I will be able to study law on the condition that I need to get A in the presessional course. I don't know it is true or not but the director of presessional course declare like this. That 's why I have no time to check this board.

For accommodation, I walk pass Howlands farm many time. I think that the noise there is not the big problem for us. The problem for me is it is quite far away from law department and from the city centre. I have to carry many heavy things, especially foods from the city centre to Howlands by walking up the hill. it 's so terrible and often make me tired, so maybe I will rent a house with my friends. it is much cheaper and more convenient because you can choose the location you prefer.

for the course, I haven't yet check the module but I heard that it have no the international dispute resolution that is my interest and I will not choose the European law because I have never learn this subject before , so it is quite difficult to compete with other europian students.

Anyway, i have many friends that will be our classmate studying the presestional course. I have many japanese freinds as well and all of them is very nice. my close friends here is also japanese, I m really like japanese guys. Miko, I hope you will be one of my best friends soon. Furthermore, I also know Italian guy but now there is only one italian. He is handsome ,colorful and very nice as well. we play soccer and go to the pubs together many times. Many friends here make me relaxed from hard study. I look forward to see you all too.

Ok, I think the information I give will be useful for you all. If you have any question, just ask and leave it in this board. I will try my best to answer your question as fast as possible

Hi, everyone.

I have received the welcome pack from the College.
I would like to participate in induction week events as much as possible.
As i said before, i will arrive in Durham on the 26th (come from Edinburgh) and i'm invited to the reception by the Principal on that day.
Maybe my first day in Durham will be busy...

to Ole
How do you do?
You know a Japanese MBA student, who is my e-mail friend, don't you?
Did he show a picture of me?
I sent it to him by e-mail.

I look forward to meeting you all.
And have a nice and safe journey to Durham!

Hi, Reinhard

I received it on 6 September.
It includes:
*Letter from Ustinov College
*Info about College Tutors
*Letter from Durham University Sport
*College Newsletter
*Letter to International Students
(Info on Int'l Students' Association induction programme and Confirmation of arrival form are attached)
*Info about College induction & welcome events
*Leaflet about College Freshers' Week
*Info about the payment of tuition fees
*Handbook for Int'l Students 2005
*Ustinov College Members' Handbook 2005-2006
*Leaflet about IT facilities for students
*Invitation card regarding the reception by the College President (this shows when you should attend the reception)
*Info about collecting keys
*Flyer of an insurance company
*Leaflet of Language Centre
*Flyer of events by Durham University Charites Kommittee

Is this the"welcome pack" that you mentioned?
About the fifth content of the above, you will be requested to complete the form and send it back to International Student Support Service by 20 September.
You can do it also on the website: www.dur.ac.uk/international/
(I haven't replied to them yet...)

And...have you received Tuition Fee Form?
The Graduate Society requested students to fill the form and return it to them by 15 September: TODAY.
I received the form yesterday(!) and I sent it by facsimile.
If you don't have the form, it would be better to contact the Graduate Society ASAP.

I hope that my comments would be satisfactory to you.

Night,
makiko

hi Makiko! Thanks again for your fast reply! It's funny i actually received the tuition fee form some time ago - this is thursday last week I believe. But not the rest. I got some of the information from the Internet, but not the indivudal. I completed the form via Internet - 2 days ago, somewhere it says they want it 10 days before your arrival, so that was yesterday for me.
What I am waiting for is my room number and all the invitation card for the reception, that means the more individual stuff where the internet is not much help....
have to go now, cu r
