Hi everyone,

I am thinking of applying for the LLM at Cambridge for 2009. I have a 1st from a top 30 university in the UK and have won the university law prize every year. I don't really have any work experience or publications. My first year grades are all 2:1 - do I have a realistic chance? I am worried my university and first year grades will hold me back (I graduated with an average of 73).

Well I guess you should apply... Here is the catch : Apply as soon as the applications are out.

Why is it important to apply early? Also, are the applications out now?

Its important because these Universities admit students on rolling basis. If they get a good student, they admit him (even though they inform the student late) and do not wait for the application deadline to get over to make a decision on all of them together. Therefore the seats get full soon.

I'm not sure whether applications are out but most probably they must be, by now. Cambridge applications are the earliest ones to come out and close.

I'm pretty sure Cambridge doesn't use a rolling admissions system; just make sure your application is there by the deadline.

And you might want to "bother" applying; you probably won't get in otherwise. While Cambridge has been working for years on a clairvoyant admissions process, they haven't quite worked out all the kinks. If they'd gone with last year's ESP-selected candidates, for instance, they'd have let in at least four geraniums, two omelets and a ratty pair of pantyhose.

Of course, the pantyhose did have a first from LSE.

So yes, you should probably apply.

I confirm that you should apply to Cambridge asap due to the rolling basis system...got unlucky a few years ago...I applied too late for Oxford and Cambridge...

I think it was a friendly joke to encourage you to take your swings in the admissions process. Do the research to make sure you have a realistic list of programmes, but you should absolutely apply.
