LLM to JD transfer
Northwestern University School of Law recently offered the 2 year JD Program. Once accepted for the LLM Program, it would be possible to apply for the JD Program. In most law schools, there is no official policy that would allow LLMs to transfer to the JD Program. However, in exceptional cases, it may be possible. The admissions policy would vary though. If this is allowed, the admissions officer would take into consideration one's academic performance in the LLM Program if that person indicates an intention to pursue a JD after his or her LLM year.

LLM to JD transfer
The following schools will allow transfer from LL.M to JD for its LL.M students base on good performance in the LL.M program, but without granting LL.M certificate:Fri Jan 09, 2009 09:02 PM A) Vanderbilt; George Washington, U. California Hasting, Washington University, UCLA, U. Michigan. The following will allow transfer from LL.M to JD irrespective of school where LL.M was obtained but with good performance from the LL.M program. B) Cornell, Columbia, Chicago Note> schools listed under A, do not require LSAT, but those listed under B, do require LSAT Additionally, Chicago, U. Penn. and Virginia also allow their LL.M students to trnasfer internally to their JD program without LSAT. However before you complete any application, do contact the Law Schools themselves. |

LLM to JD transfer
Allthough the process is highly competitive, USC is now allowing its LLM sudents to transfer to USC JD program without a need of taking LSAT test at all. You will be able to transfer all eligible units from LLM to JD program and most likely will complete your JD in additional 2 years of studying. Sun Jan 25, 2009 09:50 PM You can also try to transfer-out, to other Law Schools, in that case a roof of good scores on your LSAT test will be definitely required. LLM to JD transfer
I know that Washing Univeristy at St. Louis gives 5 LLM students scholarships to transfer to the JD program with no requirement of LSAT. I know 2 friends who've successfully completed JD through this route and one of them is working in a big firm in NY now. Tue Jan 27, 2009 01:01 AM I've heard Vanderbilt does LLM-JD transfer every year to a couple of students with academic excellence. From last year, USC has also started the transfer option with no requirement of LSAT. [Edited by yahn on 27 Jan 2009] |

LLM to JD transfer
Thu Mar 12, 2009 11:10 AM The following schools will allow transfer from LL.M to JD for its LL.M students base on good performance in the LL.M program, but without granting LL.M certificate: Thanks for the info. Regarding the schools listed under B: If LSAT is required anyway, what exactely is gained by a "transfer" from the LLM to the JD program? Will the admission requirements be lowered in my favour, or won't there be any actual difference between me and some other random JD applicant? |

LLM to JD transfer
Are you sure LSAT is required for internal transfer at CLS? (Not indicated in the LLM section of their website pertaining to transfer to the JD program)

LLM to JD transfer
GW requires the LSAT to transfer, I know because I was among the first to go through this process. Also, if you want to practice in the US, my advice after doing the LLM (and then transferring to the JD) is go and study really hard for the LSAT and do a JD.
