I would do to the University of London External Program or the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow Graduate School of Law) distance learning program. Did you check the Distance Learning Board yet? >> www.llm-guide.com/board/67

Though you didn't state that you were looking for a Scottish University, I hope this is of interest. The University of Edinburgh has an LL.M programme by distance learning.

I am set to graduate a JD program in May and will begin a federal clerkship in August. The London program seems an ideal course for obtaining a post-graduate degree in legal philosophy/theory by distance learning, but I cannot help but feel a bit sceptical. Is this LL.M program - with its leinient admissions requirements - really legit? Or restated, is it the functional equivalent of an LL.M from a prestigious U.S. law school? It just seems to easy . . .

Its good and legit...

You still need to be qualified in a first degree in Law to get on the program.
To get on places FULL TIME is more difficult because of the restrictions on numbers,the financial aid and scholarship limits.
If you are working and studying at the same time,this doesn't apply and therefore the numbers aren't so restricted that's all.
The standard of the degree is high

It's not like disposable paper from the states !

You can also negotiate with Uni Bristol re their weekend Certificate courses that lead to an LL.M.

as far as I know Glamorgan University and Leeds University offer LLM distance learning programmes in European Law. Good luck!

Does anyone have any insight on the international intellectual property specialization? How tough is it? It seems some of the coursework overlaps -- which may be a blessing.

I see a post above indicates that the University of London LLM program is legit--not just a paper mill. Can anyone link me to an article that is hard proof of that. When I hear distance learning in the USA, I think "rip off."

I am interested in the London program, but have doubts. Please help

I have a question that is bothering me: What is the difference between KCL,UCL,SOAS & QM if there are all part of a federal programme? I believe they all are part of the University of London.....

Anyway, I might go to QM for the Intellectual property LL.M. It sounds good...Does anyone know about it?

Send me your email address by private message and I'll show you the commitment required to complete an LL.M via distance learning (at least from the University of Edinburgh).

I can't speak for postgraduate level distance learning in the USA, but in the UK, if you pick a programme from a recognised higher educaiton establishment, you know that it will meet requirements of the various government departments who are responsible for the standards! (check www.scqf.org.uk for example).

If you think you are just paying for a degree certificate (remember access to programmes cost in the regions of five to ten thousand pounds sterling) then you might as well burn the money for all the good it would do (or give it to me and I'll invest it in my own postgrad qualification by distance learning!)

I am 39 Years Old, Afro-Canadian citizen, original from Congo-Kinshasa. I have a Bachelar degree in Education Sciences, me and my wife founded a charitable organization for AIDS affected children and single young mothers living with their poor parents in Sierra Leone. To improve my knowledge, I am applying to sdudy Law at the American University in London for LLM program, Distance learning. The program fee is 2500 Pounds and I have financial problems. Does any body knows where I can get scholarship/Financial aid please?

Dear Laurent,

I just would like to comment that so far I know the "American University in London" is not an accredited institution. You better try the UoL (University of London) LLM, at least you have 5 years to complete it and you can take 1 subject by year and pay little by little.

Geodude, I'm afraid that there are no PhDs available at the University of Edinburgh via distance learning. If you are interested in an in-situ PhD here, drop me a private message.

Laurent, there are multitudes of scholarships available, I'm sure that there will be one that you will receive. Another point is that financial support providers will often request that you have a secure place before they will consider your funding application. This would mean applying to the University prior to having a sound financial footing. In most cases, Universities will be happy to accommodate this, but some may have an application fee.

Most universities will have a scholarships department, and you'll find them on-line. For example, www.scholarships.ed.ac.uk will have a few links which may be of use.
