LLM without LLB in Canada
Hello everyone, Sun Dec 21, 2008 04:52 PM I am a Criminology undergrad, and after working in an an international human rights NGO for more than a year, am interested in doing LLM (which would give me the much needed legal knowledge). I am interested in pursuing the LLM degree in Canada. I know there are lots of options in UK but havent come across any univ. in Canada which accepts students for LLM who have not done LLB. I would really appreciate if any of you know about any such univ. in Canada. Thanks in advance. |

LLM without LLB in Canada
Greetings:Tue Dec 30, 2008 05:08 PM An interesting, question, yours, which reveals the lack of flexibility in Canadian LL.M programmes. You're really left with the University of Toronto's Osgoode Hall part-time, executive type LL.M. programme, which will not have the extent of criminal content you seem to want. All other Canadian law schools won't consider - even for a two year (+) part-time LL.M. - candidates without a LL.B. degree. I recommend you stay offshore in your choice of programmes, and that you consider Melbourne, Otago, Wales (Aberstwyth), Utrecht and, of course, LSE. Ideally, you'd want to study law in a common law jurisdiction with a comparable criminal justice system to that of Canada: Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K. Best of luck. |

LLM without LLB in Canada
To Vancouver Jurist:Wed Dec 31, 2008 12:15 AM I am already a lawyer (Mexico) about to file the paperwork towards the Canadian perm residence visa; however i am courious about how the Canadian Legal market is doing nowadays. I read some where @ "Law is cool" blog that the market is some how slow, could you please tell based on your experience. Once with the visa I am considering going back to Law School for the JD/LLB at UBC to eventually practice in Vancouver where I have been told I may get acredited with 1L by a previous degree... What you think? Thx & happy hollydays 2 U all!! |
