Tax program at three schools: NYU, GULC, and BU. Tue Dec 23, 2008 03:20 AM As I'm sure most people do, I based my decision on where to apply on the quality of the program and its location. |

Only one -- GULC. The securities and financial regulation program is the leading program of its kind. Plus, D.C. is a great city.

How many programs did you apply to?
I applied to BU, Northwestern, GULC, UF, NYU, USD, U of Washington, U of Denver, U of Miami, and Loyola (CA). So far I haven't heard from NYU or Northwestern, am on hold at UF (they want this semester's grades) waitlisted at USD and in everywhere else (6). I'm probably going to Georgetown unless by some chance I get into NYU and then I have a tough decision.

Thu Dec 25, 2008 11:36 PM Thnx for answering. So u got an answer fro GT.... what about BU ? any news? I have to say that I didn't know USD has good rep. on LLM. BU scheduled me for a phone interview in January with the dean. They basically told me they didn't do interviews unless they were planning on accepting you. So no formal letter yet, but I think I'm in. I don't think USD has that greta of a program (they're ranked 8-9), but I think b/c their application was free a lot of people applied and so to give responses early they waitlisted a lot of people. No matter, I'm excited about GULC. |

I applied to 6. NYU, UF, BU, Denver, Loyola, and USD. I submitted all of my applications in early this fall. I've heard responses from the last three and BU and UF are both expected shortly. Fri Dec 26, 2008 05:48 AM |

Fri Dec 26, 2008 07:00 AM Did you have a JD securities specialization/ securities experience? I agree that DC is a nice city! Neither. My school only offered a couple securities classes and therefore I could not specialize in securities law. I took the classes offered, however, and absolutely loved them. Prior to law school, I did not work in the securities industry. |

It is a great time to specialize in securities :> And you will be close the SEC in DC. You may have a great career here. good luck to you! Fri Dec 26, 2008 03:47 PM My understanding is that the securities and M&A practice is booming in Russia too. |

Hopefully the SEC will get more funding in the near future -- the war in Iraq has diverted a lot of funds from the SEC and other federal agencies. |

I don't think there is anything wrong with applying to one school if you feel confident of being accepted. I applied to four namely GULC, NYU, UMICH & HLS. So far i have been admitted to GULC. All the best!
