Shipping law : Looking for a short term studie
Hi,Sat Jan 10, 2009 10:24 AM I am looking for a short term study, up to 5 months, in the field of shipping law or and maritime law. The courses can be given in English, French, Dutch or German. Can anyone give me advise of which universities offer such a programme? Thanks, P. |

In the recent times, Swansea has been said to have had the best reputation in the concerned field with there being reports in the recent past on this forum that big businesses have sent thier employees on full scholarship for LLM, only with the condition that the course be pursued at Swansea.Sun Jan 11, 2009 04:43 AM Of course, you might be looking for shorter term courses, still Swansea seems to be the modern-day favourite. Historically though, both UCL and Southampton have been considered the best in the field concerned, however, the latter has been losing out the race after the turn of the millennium. |

You may likewise explore the University of Nottingham (England), the University of Cardiff (Wales), the World Maritime University (Sweden - established under the auspices of the International Maritime Organisation, a specialised agency of the United Nations), the University of Oslo (Norway), or Tulane University (New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.). These are universities that specialise in maritime law. They may have short-term courses to meet your needs.Tue Jan 13, 2009 09:29 AM If you're looking for a comprehensive programme on admiralty/maritime law and policy, the World Maritime University is suggested. |

Well said opinionjurist!Fri Mar 20, 2009 05:31 PM Swansea is certainly on the rise and the other ones in the UK are in decline- especially Southampton which has recently dropped in RAE rankings and research income according to Higher Education Supplement I try to follow! |

I agree with the observations of Hababa- I am a trainee with knowledge in this field who is encouraged by my employer to consider applying to a programme which is innovative, forward looking and known in practice

Quite embarrassing for Swansea. hababa Joined: 20 Mar 2009 Fri Mar 20, 2009 06:31 PM esiken Joined: 20 Mar 2009 Yesterday, 11:38 PM |

I found this short course,,but its actually really short,,,,3 weeks in Un. of Southampton. I totally recommend it because I took in the year 2000 when I when there as a visiting student.Fri Mar 27, 2009 04:18 PM Here is the link: www.iml.soton.ac.uk/professional_courses/short_cou… And also this one which seems excellent both for their quality and because it is offered by the International Maritime Organization at the International Maritime Law Institute in Malta Institute. A dream come true hehe They also offer besides the short courses, these diplomas: - Advanced Diploma in International Maritime Law (Public); - Advanced Diploma in International Maritime Law (Private); and - Advanced Diploma in International Maritime Law (General). here are the links: www.imli.org/lmenu1-3.htm www.imli.org/lmenu1-4.htm --- |

I am a trainee and Swansea has a very good reputation in the shipping circles. Nobody can actually dispute that!! Gesiken [Edited by gesiken on 10 Apr 2009] |
