Endeavor Europe Awards + Sidney LLM
Hi everybody!Wed Feb 25, 2009 04:04 PM I need help. I would like to apply for admission for LLM at the University of Sidney (2010/2011). The application closing date for Endeavor Europe Awards is 31 July 2009 for the year 2010 and I need to provide them with the proof that I have been admitted to the University (or maybe I misunderstood something). However, the application closing date for admission at the University is 31 October 2009. So how can one have a proof of admission already by the end of July? When does the first semester start? Is it in March? I am really confused about these dates...please help... |

Hey thereFri Feb 27, 2009 03:07 PM The first semester of Usyd is in early March. The deadline you see from the website is literally a "deadline". Meaning that you can apply as early as now until then. The admission will be on a rolling basis, so it's quite certain that you will receive your offer in time. I submitted my application in late May last year and I had the offer in time of July. Hope this helps, Slow |

Thanks a lot for your answer, I'm relaxed now. 8-))) Are you currently a Sidney LLM student? What are your experiences so far?

Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:57 AM Yes, I'm a current LLM student at the University of Sydney (I hope you got the name wrong by mistake not by intention, it's a basic element that you know the name of the school you're applying for...lol). I haven't had much experience so far since my first class will start tomorrow. But I have had many orientations and there was a Bridging Program...which was pretty boring yet useful. Hope u will succeed with your application to both USYD and the Endeavour Award. Slow |

As for the name, tnx for the warning, it was a mistake, although it happened repeatedly...8-))) I am interested in applying, but not so sure though. By reading threads on this board, I got the impression that LLM in Australia is not so popular and I am worried about what kind of effect it will have on a career of a Croatian lawyer, if any... People from my country are more into the USA and UK and everybody is asking me why I want to go so far away to do the LLM...But I think the University of Sydney is a great school and I think maybe some USA and UK schools are overrated...I also think that when you do an LLM, in addition to professional experience you get, it is very important to get to know completely different culture and people, so why not Australia?Sun Mar 01, 2009 12:33 PM If it's not too much to ask, can you tell me where are you from? |

I pretty much have the same dilemma.I'd love to pursue the Masters programme at Melbourne uni, but I'm really being discouraged to do so as a Masters obtained at a London uni is better recognised I suppose. Also, I'm not too sure how easily I'd be able to find law related work in Melbourne, even though I intend to pursue the LL.M in Int. Tax.

Well...didn't have any problem deciding to come to USYD at all. Even though I have been determined to go to US law schools, USYD LLM is pretty internationally regarded. One reason would be that I was granted a full scholarship to come here, so it could only adds up to my credentials rather than just a mere waste of time or money. Mon Mar 02, 2009 01:26 PM I dont know about you guys, but I will go to the US for another LLM in 2010 after my time here in Sydney. If you consider to do just one LLM and you are hesitant whether an Aus LLM would be the way to go, then I suggest you choose other law schools in the US or UK of your choices. My only hesitation would be whether I should go for BU Banking and Financial Laws in the Spring (already admitted) or apply for other top 5 schools and start in the Fall...if you guys have any opinion about this...please feel free to share. Thanks Slow |

More LLM-s, why not? I'm interested in Australia also because of the full scholarship while finding (and receiving) a scholarship for the US is a serious business. I'm also considering BU Banking and Financial Law, but they have only a few scholarships available. Generally, I'm more into business/banking/commercial law and if I could choose, I would go to NYU. If I don' t make it there, I'll keep my fingers crossed for USYD. And then the next year, who knows...
