British Pubs
Sun Jan 30, 2005 08:52 PM
Hi all, as a prospective LLM student in Britain (2005/2006) I would really like to know if rumors are true, that pubs are now open after 11 p.m. Someone here from the UK who can confirm this?

Pubs and bars across England and Wales can begin applying today for licences to open for up to 24 hours a day -- sweeping away a fixed 11 p.m. closing time observed by most pubs since World War One.

An important note on this important issue from a Scot! English and Welsh licensing laws are subject to a seperate legal system from those here in Scotland. Scotland has enjoyed late night openings (as late as 3am) for many years. Generally a sore point with our neighbours south of the border, until very recently!

So it seems that the Scots are ahead of the Englishmen in some regards. So far, I only knew that the Scots invented golf, curling and malt whisky...

I thought the difference was a numeric system based on twelve or something versus one based on ten???

re Scottish inventions check out the book:

How the Scots Invented the Modern World: The True Story of How Western Europe's Poorest Nation Created Our World and Everything in It.
