American University-Welcome

Who is going to American? I will be enrolling in the Law & Government Program in the fall. I thought it might be helpful to get to know one another - from either the International Program or Law & Government - before the fall.

Has anyone received the course listing or heard about scholarships or tuition remission?

Welcome to all!

"Job opportunities are close to nothing"? That doesn't sound too encouraging. Are you talking about opportunities during the semester or upon completion of the program? I'm considering attending in the fall, but do not want to give up my steady paycheck and fork over a year of tuition if it is going to be difficult to find employment in a year. Does anyone have any knowledge about job placement rate/data? Thanks,
Taylor

it seems we a all concerned about job placement opportunities at american. are you a domestic international llm? i think the job picture is different depending on whether you are a foreign for domestic lawyer. i am asking the placement staff about this, please hold on.

I was talking for foreign lawyer hence for the international legal studies program.
If you are a domestic lawyer my comment was irrelevant .
Sorry about that :-(
but if you are a foreigner performing LLM program is not enough to secure a job in a law firm.

Guys,
AU offers some scholarships contrary to Georgetown. For the ILSP program, there are two big scholarships offered every semester for contribution to the advancement of the rule of law, you should ask Irene Moyer more information. Also AU offers tuition remission, it can go from 2-8 credits and I can ensure you that it helps.

Hello,

Does anyone have any information on the job prospects for domestic international law llms? I just talk to one of the placement staff and she told me that you basically have the network real hard during you llm, there is no formal recruiting (granted the pool of domestic llms is not big enough for there to be one), and llm itself will not secure you a job. she added that the networking and internship opportunity at au is substantial.
