Which law firm for training contract?
Sun Jul 10, 2005 09:25 PM
Which law firm in London would you recommend for a training contract in business law? I was thinking about applying to Slaughter and May, Clifford Chance, Freshfields, Linklaters, Allen and Overy, Morgan Lewis & Bockius, Baker & McKenzie, Coudert Brothers, or Debevoise & Plimpton. I personally would prefer Freshfileds, but its probably hard to get in (and I do not know much about the others). Could someone give me any input about the other firms, chances, payment, corporate culture etc? Thanks, Akif

Your question is a bit off-topic, and I'm afraid do not know anything about this E.A.R.I. Sorry...

Akif, I can't give much advice here at all, but I can say that the word over here in the US is that Coudert Brothers is in trouble. A lot of people are leaving the firm and they're having trouble keeping clients. I don't know what that means for the international offices, but it may be something to bear in mind.

Alex, thanks for yuour reply. I have heard similar things. Coudert recently closed all offices in Germany, so their future strategy in Europe seems to under review.

I would be greatful for any further comments about law firms with offices in London! Akif

Hi, thought maybe I could help since I have a training contract at Clifford Chance.
I'm not totally sure what you want to know about the firms and I don't know about all of them (have had some experience (interviews, applications, open days, vacation schemes) of a few) but please ask me anything, and in the meantime check out The True Picture - an analysis of UK training contracts, with lots of information on each firm - www.chambersandpartners.com/chambersstudent/text.c…
